There's no infrastructure there for league though really is there?

Ipswich Jets would be a decent one, IMO.

I have a mate who plays for the Redcliffe Dolphins and he reckons they'd be good for it too.

No stadium, and the Jets leagues club is quite small. They could buy out Brothers and take over their club, that is quite big, and also has 2 ovals there for training.

Ipswich is an area of significant projected growth.

Exactly the type of area where government are generally willing to spend on said infrastructure.

It's a Western corridor bid though, don't know Brisbane well enough to how far that extends.

Ipswich is a fucking hole. The second Brisbane side should just base itself out of Suncorp for mine. It would still get a hell of a lot of support as a lot of Brisbane people hate the Broncos. Everyone labelled the Crushers a failure but they were brought in just as Super League started and for their how terrible they were, they actually got decent crowd numbers. In 95 they averaged 21k, 96 13k and then it went to shit in 97 when it was pretty much already concluded that they'd be axed as well as the fact that Brisbane became a very Super League supportive city.

In terms of club identity and differentiation, the second side would just have to prey on the Bronco hatred from the BRL days.

Ipswich is a growth areas for abos and homeless.

  7. Ged GEC King

And no one in Brisbane would want to travel there to watch games.

A few things from the Economic and Statistical research

Ipswich to have fastest growth but Gold Coast to have most growth
In the decade to 2021, Ipswich (C) is projected to grow rapidly at a very high 5.0 per cent per
annum (a total of 111,000 people), while Gold Coast (C) is projected to have the largest
amount of growth (133,800 people) of any local government area (LGA) in Queensland.

Largest increases in younger and older people
Ipswich is projected to record the largest increase of any local government area in
Queensland of people aged less than 35 years (nearly 159,000), while Brisbane is the area
with the largest increase by 2031 of people aged 65 years or more (99,000)

In 2006 Ipswich (C) had a population of 142,500, just one-seventh the size of Brisbane (C).
By 2021 it is projected to double its population to 286,400 and be one-quarter the size of
Brisbane (C). By 2031 it is expected to grow by another 175,600 residents. In 2031 the
population of Ipswich (C) (462,000) is projected to be one-third the size of Brisbane (C) and
similar in size to the population of Gold Coast (C) in 2006.

Ipswich (C) had the youngest median age (33 years) of any LGA in the region in 2006 and
throughout the projection period. In the 10 years to 2021, Ipswich (C) is projected to have a
larger increase in the number of young people than any other LGA in Queensland. The
number aged less than 35 years is expected to increase by 56,700 in Ipswich (C), one-quarter
of the increase throughout SEQ (despite starting with just 6.1 per cent of the region’s
    population under 35 years).

Doesn't make it not a hole.

When did Rugby League become an elitist sport?

  11. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

This. Ipswich has produced legends of the game. Even Wayne Bennett played/coached for the switch.

  12. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Redcliffe is the best option in my admittedly dilettante opinion.

  13. Reagan Wheelson RDP Wheelson

tbh there's hardly anywhere in Queensland not filled with bogans to put a team in

  14. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

Bogan sides/areas are good for the game, wouldn't be right if we didn't have souths

On a slightly different note, if there was to be an expansion with just one team, we would have to change Origin scheduling as it would mean there would be an odd amount of teams which means someone has to have a bye every week which probably means not that many teams can get a bye come origin time.

  16. Lordeman JA Robertson

Who cares? They're not looking for the Brisbane people to travel out there, they've already got all the crazy fanatics in Ipswich locked down, who'll happily get a second mortgage in order to get their season membership and all the merchandise they can get their hands on.

What's most important is limiting the number of people from Ipswich who travel in, and basing the new team in Brisbane certainly doesn't do that.

  17. Jazz NC Smith

Would it? I haven't thought it through in great detail but wouldn't the season just end up being slightly longer to accommodate the extra team and the 5/6 split rounds either side of Origin would still work.

  18. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

    I don't quite understand this?
