Well then we gained no real benefit.

Yeah well it's sort of double tough titties isn't it.

The players didn't break the cap, the club itself did. If you lose 8 points, you're still only a few wins outside the 8, and the Eels should really dominate through the origin period, as none of your players should make either side.

  4. AVA T Delonge

    Yep.

I'm fine with copping a penalty, just not sure behind the logic of banning them from this seasons Finals series if it's a completely unrelated team.

  5. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

It's not though. It's still the Eels. With your logic a team could rort the cap and sign all the best players to a 1 year deal and the club could then avoid all punishment in the future because they'd have a different playing roster.

  6. AVA T Delonge

Yeah, fair point. I just figure there are better actions to take against the club which also doesn't punish a bunch of innocent people as well.

Makes me wonder, if the Eels had been successful over the past few years and had been stripped premierships like the Storm, would a punishment also have been applied to this season (assuming we are not over the cap now like the Storm still were in 2010 when their dramas were leaked)? If not, it's shit that the punishment is being applied now because we are finally looking successful

I don't think being over the cap was your problem, apparently you were making cash payments to overseas accounts for players, and also making 3rd party agreements for players.

  8. AVA T Delonge

But if you stripped the team of anything they won/fined them for any additional profits they made doing that, what would be the point? It wouldn't benefit the current team any more than if it hadn't had happened

  9. Farhat AM Farhat

Well if they had won the premiership that year you strip them of the title. Otherwise, a fine suffices.

Jenko, but yeah, we should really win.

  10. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Bullshit. Needs to be a severe punishment if they are guilty of cheating. If they aren't taken out of this years comp, Storm and Dogs will lose it, and rightly so.

You're basically wanting a lesser punishment because your side is shit even with cheating.

  11. AVA T Delonge

The scenarios are not exactly the same though. The Storm and Bulldogs were both in breach of the salary cap during the season they were punished in, hence why they were deemed ineligible for the Finals in 2002/2010.

It could also be argued that Parramatta have gained an advantage by providing illegal payments outside of the cap in order for players to be released from their contracts early (according to what is alleged) and without consequence in future year's salary caps.

These actions could also be used to substantiate the argument for stripping points this year.

  13. Magic AJ Parker

I can't think of a greater incentive than a loss of points to deter cheating the salary cap.

Fines only deter those who can't afford them. Points are equal no matter which club you are at.

  14. Julian BJ Taylor

    Agree with all of that

  15. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Scenario might be different, crime isn't though.

  17. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Don't know what point you're trying to make with that.

  18. BMT BMT Con

Just funny that he still feels that he did nothing wrong.

  19. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

I don't think he did. He didn't do the Storms books. Administration is to blame, not the players.

Melbourne had to play for no points because they were actually still fielding an illegal team in 2010. It would have been a disgrace if they actually won anything that year. Parramatta should be punished, but the punishment doesn't need to completely write off their season because their current side is legal. I reckon 8 points would be pretty fair, tbh.
