Well in theory, with a halfback like Cleary you even have the option to ditch Luai, pick Jake in the 13 and simply put the 6 jumper on Yeo and let him play his usual game. Either Wighton, Burton or even Mitchell will be there someplace for kicking options and Luai barely kicks anyway.

If I were to pick a Blues side next year with all hands on deck, I'd go:

    1. Teddy
    2. To'o
    3. Mitchell
    4. Wighton
    5. Turbo
    6. Hynes
    7. Cleary
    8. Haas
    9. Cook
    10. Klemmer
    11. Frizell
    12. Murray
    13. Yeo

    14. Koroisau
    15. Saifiti
    16. Jurbo
    17. A. Crichton

Yeah exactly. You can lose with better players without it really being the coach's fault, but he's openly put his head on the line with some weird decision and they've openly not worked. Off with his head.

Wighton's definitely a centre only at rep level IMO.

I'd pick Burton in the 6 but it's not ideal either. We need a genuine ballplayer to partner Cleary and, Cody aside who shouldn't really be considered for various reasons, we don't have one.

After Wilson said Moses for 6 I've really come around to the idea.
I actually didn't mind Wilsons pitch for Moses the more I thought about it, whilst he's not playing second fiddle as a 6 week in week out, I think he'd be very capable of doing it, dare I say he may even prefer it at origin level, didn't look particularly comfortable steering the ship last time.

Moses is more of a runner at a support player than a genuine ballplayer himself. It's basically what separates him from DCE.

    Hynes.

Agreed, no issues with Yeo or Murray coming off the bench as impact, has worked well in the past when QLD have used even smaller players like Cronk & Hunt. We really need to give up on Murray as a 2nd rower though, I barely understand it at club level let alone at SOO.

I still think Angus Crichton is world class as a 13 and his defensive is massively underrated. He’s massively overrated as a 2nd rower as he’s bog average at club level there but he or Jurbo would be my starting 13. Would love Finucane, Nigel Plum type lock though.

Disagree, I think it was pretty clear this series that you need a bit more creativity outside of Cleary. We looked void of all ideas in the final 10minutes of game 3. Our success in attack under Fittler seems to be overly reliant on one of Tommy Turbo of Teddy getting a half break up the middle and then just working over the ruck for 2 or 3 plays after that and then spreading it wide if that doesn’t work.

I’m still waiting for him to shit the bed as a halfback but he’s been surprisingly decent. Not sure he answers the needs of the void in creativity though.

I've been saying this for a while. I still think all other eligibility criteria needs to be met. Just that being eligible for Australia shouldn't be one of them. These decisions were made 42 years ago, and it was likely to keep the few international players out of the selection process in case they could gain eligibility on a technicality. However, these days I'd wager that perhaps half of the current NRL players are either first or second generation Australians. They are forced to choose between their footy allegiance and their heritage, and I don't think that's fair, and I also don't think it's fair to judge their loyalty either.

    The way I see it:
Origin is based upon your journey in footy; where you started and where your blood and sweat are.
International Footy is based around your birth, heritage and cultural ties.

    They really shouldn't be linked.

I mean, I wouldn't do it either. I'm saying it could work to a degree as Cleary does play both sides equally well, and pulling out Luai for Jake as your third middle, while keeping your 2 edge forwards and keeping Yeo as your link man probably makes the side better overall than with Luai in the side IMO. Obviously unearthing a quality 6 is the best option though.

I don't think he will. I honestly thought he would take time to settle and would end up playing at fullback by now.

He's one of the most well-rounded players I've seen in a while. He's a great ball runner, a decent defender, has good vision, a good boot and a silky passing game.

Nah I dont like it. There is just something fundamentally wrong with the idea of seeing Kalyn Ponga play for Qld then go and play for NZ.

    That's quite conservative.

How long before the opposite situation is allowed?

A kiwi born and bred, plays most of his footy in NZ. Should he be allowed to play Origin because his mum was born in Bundaberg?

My feelings towards international footy have really waned. I couldnt give a fuck. Its always going to be a joke. England and NZ will always be union dominated so why bother? AFL thrives with no international competition.

Fix and promote our club comp. Protect the integrity of Origin, our crown jewel. Fuck Test football.

See I feel the same way, but to me that means we should allow people born and playing juniors in NSW/QLD to play in Origin. Fuck treating Origin as a 'trial run' for Australia

Cribb used to use the old example of Nathan Cayless. Born in NSW, apparently a die-hard NSW fan, but ineligible because he wanted to represent his Maori heritage at an international level.

What if, and this might sound crazy, it wasn't a slippery slope? Why would allowing NSW/Qld juniors under the current eligibility (playing juniors before they turn 13, so pretty young at the moment) necessarily extend to changing it and allowing them to play based on parental heritage? That's a huge jump to make given the current requirements.
