Yeah, maybe. Not great in defence up the middle of the ruck but that could be worked on. Better than Buttriss and Waddell anyway if that's what you're thinking.

He's okay. Fringe first grader at the moment IMO, but he's still youngish so he could develop into something more.

Five-eighth only, though. Maybe off the bench as a dummy half.. definitely not halfback on a consistent basis however.

Yeah, I'm sick of players getting picked straight out of the 20s but in this case there isn't much to lose. Really would've been much better if he was given a few weeks for SL first though to see if he could cut it there.

Haha, thought you meant Michael Picker because we were talking about halves before. My mistake. Picker's got a good combination with Campese.. he's definitely a first grade footballer. Always rated Thurling higher though.

Haven't really seen that much of him, but he reminds me a lot of McCrone. Doubt he'll ever make it.

As for the defence thing I agree - really shouldn't come into it for a halfback as much as it does unless you have two very similar apart from defence. You can't justify carrying someone like Bronson Harrison and treating him like Jesus, then refusing to pick your best halfback because his defence is poor. A good half will create you a lot more points than a good back rower so you'd be better off picking better defensive second rowers and giving your best half an extended run than the Herbert+Harrison arrangement.

Fair enough. If he's a decent organiser (which the stats obv can't measure) I reckon he could be the real deal because everything else about his game looks awesome on paper this year. Seems to male a stupid amount of breaks and metres for someone who plays first receiver and he's fourth (IIRC) for assists in the comp. He's been tackling at 75% efficiency which is just below par for a Toyota Cup half - could be the next Dobbo...

Matt Smith's still kicking around in the Queensland Cup; you could probably sign him back if you wanted.

What do you know about Sam Williams? Was just having a look at the Toyota Cup stats and he really seems to dominate at that level. Right up there in the top 5 in terms of assists, and makes a stack of metres and line breaks every game as well - quite unusual stats for a halfback tbh; seems to read more like an awesome five-eighth but he's played halfback every game.
