2-2 on 6N v Championship then with the two losses being by less than a score - claiming a win this week

Ugh. Jared Payne in an Ireland jersey. It's USA '94 all over again.

  3. Howe JHF Howe

Highlights show Greg Laidlaw got the stuffing knocked out of him early on which led to Argentina scoring, but then came back to break the line 3 times and assist a try on each. Fair play

We were excellent last season as well :p

1 - My apologies to May - his try goes straight into my top 50 tries I have ever seen.
2 - Broken record comment for the day - England win that with manu in the side. They attempted no pre-rehearsed plays using their centres and often bought their wingers in to the middle of the field to create some line breaks.
3 - Farrell and Care are quality - although care less so - too many box kicks right before he was subbed off. Good ball distribution all game.
4 - I predict England with the same side should beat Australia. I don't know about a SA with that Man Handre Pollard at 1st 5. But if it were Morne Steyn then they would certainly win.
5 - this performance by England was better than anything they put forward on their tour down here. The first half in particular was quite incredible. England fans need to start believing in their team. In the second half they ran out of gas and ideas a little bit. In a world cup match they would be able to dig deeper and play like the first half for a full 80 minutes and maybe upset us. The ABs have never choked in a single World cup game - other teams just decide to play the game of their lives against us. I don't even think England need to necessarily play the game of their lives against us.
Just need to make some better decisions at key moments They also need a special plan to beat the all blacks and here is a hint. Don't blindly kick it to our back three as they will run it back with interest. Ball in hand in critical and play your own running game. We are immune to kicking.
5 Still can't wait for the world cup.
6 - that was our very very best New Zealand team out there. Maybe Nonu is better than SBW but not by an awful lot. This Kiwi side stacks up favourably against any other AB side in history and England has nearly beaten us three times this year.
I think France are out of it for the World Cup unless they suddenly improve - that gives 4 teams in the mix and England is who I fear the most.

Five teams Hirricane. Ireland's year has been incredible.

I don't think kicking it 'blind' was ever considered a good move. Lancaster commented that England needed to be more accurate with their kicking out of hand, which is why praising Farrell seems off to me. When Ford came on one of the first things he did was get some proper territory which led to the penalty try.

No way that was the All Blacks best team... Cruden is mud. Plus I'm getting more and more annoyed with Dagg as the year goes on and think Smith should be at fullback

  9. Hurricane JD Hurricane

Farrell distributes the ball well and is a good back line general. He did miss a drop goal mind you that could have proved decisive.

Cruden is officially our number 1 even if unofficially you believe Beauden is better.

In terms of my view - Beauden didn't get the job done against SA. He needs time in the black jersey to up the tempo of his game. Before I saw him in the Australia game and SA game I would also have had him ranked in my books first choice.

Oh well yeah sadly Barrett didn't step up like I thought/hoped he would. Everyone has given up hope, but you just wait, DC is back. And with DC we won't be just winning these matches we will be more convincing like last year. But hell just my opinion/prediction

Without 4 out of 5 first choices in the front five after 15 mins and still competing hugely up front...happy with that

Care and Farrell kicking game in the second half was our biggest problem. Look at well the Irish kicked to see what you need to do. Care is v good off quick ball but doesnt kick so well, bench option with Youngs is wrong, they are too similar

Yep. It's Care or Youngs with Dickson for me. There are definitely games when I'd start Dickson.

Finally watched a replay of the game. I'm usually a big fan of Nigel Owens' officiating, but he was all over the shop. Some seriously strange decisions from him. Hartley still a cunt too, I see.

I always find that Dickson is too slow to pass for my liking.

Spends far too long waiting to box kick, but I think from memory he alway seems to take a couple of steps more than anyone else before he passes.

This was a duff post. Lack of spine ultimately. No chance Strettle could have scored May's try, in fact I'm not sure there's any other player in England who could. Possibly Christian Wade but that's about it.

In my defence I have called for an ambitious approach towards May's talent in the past.

I don't disagree with some of that, although he can deliver quick service.

The difference is that he doesn't seem to go headless for periods of the game.

It's point of difference stuff though, if we're under the cosh for a period then with one of Care or Youngs starting and the other on the bench, you've got no tactical substitution to make.

I don't think you have anything to regret. He made me eaty words however. I am not sure how many wings in the world would have scored that try. He went around Conrad smith of all people

Some brilliant tries in France v Fiji, especially from the visitors

Poite then proceeded to live up his reputation again and stick Strauss, which was a rubbish call! His officiating was just utter shite throughout, especially at the breakdowns.

So good that he sidesteps himself out of the ball. Don't get me wrong, I like him and think he adds some flair to an otherwise stale backline, but just so ever too often he tries a little too hard and then fails spectacularly.

This was the shock result of the weekend for me. Scotland has been horrible the whole year and the Argies have been better than ever beating the Aussies etc etc, and then this blowout.

They struggled in the scrums, but were good at the breakdown, especially in the first half. It changed a little in the second after Schalk Burger was introduced because Mohoje contributed nothing at the breakdowns.

I thought Wales were unlucky to lose to the Aussies. That intercept try was a killer and was an unnecessary risk taken by the Welsh. I reckon they will be a dark horse come the WC next year.

Italy also impressed me against Samoa. I didn't tip them to win, but yet they prevailed after showing some proper grit against a much more physical team. I will sing the praises of Sergio Parisse ALL DAY LONG! He is an absolute star, unfortunately stuck in what was historically a struggling team.

Rant on the Boks: I am going to single out 6 people here -

    1. Francois Hougaard: Someone please shoot the cunt in the face!
    2. Teboho Mohoje: Should NEVER have started over Burger. Stole 1 lineout and carried 2 or 3 times in the entire first half, but contributed NOTHING in the loose and allowed the Irish to get quick, clean ball and disrupt our own.
3+4. Jean De Villiers together with Handre Pollard: JdV was strong in defence whereas Pollard made several blotches, but their biggest fail was with ball distribution and not being able to get the backline going at all. If Pollard didn't kick it away, JdV ran it dead at first receiver. Habana probably caught a cold out on the wing and didn't receive the ball ONCE from a Bok backline move in the entire half.
    5. Cornal Hendricks: Very good attacking player, but doesn't fit the bill for the type of rugby we should have been expecting in the NH. Pietersen is MUCH better defensively, both 1 on 1 and back talking, and also better under the high ball, where we struggled a bit. Not Hendricks' fault though, just a bad selection.
    6. Bismarck Du Plessis: Contributed heavily at scrum time to help dominate the Irish scrum, and was solid with his line out throws, but those brain explosions he had when giving away those penalties!!!

I reckon we will see several changes for the game against England where we frankly have to pick a defensive team and live off scraps, like the way we did in the final of the 2007 RWC against the same opposition.

    Critical selections for this weekend:

    2. Adriaan Strauss: He is more mobile than Bismarck and makes more tackles and gets down to more rucks. Will be crucial in helping the Boks slow down English ball.
    7. Schalk Burger: Same as above, and just being a general pain in the ass for the English.
    9. Anyone except Hougaard!!!!!!!!!!
    10. Patrick Lambie: He is a much better defender than Pollard and is also a better marshal of the game with superior tactical kicking. Probably not as much attacking flair, but is no slouch either should he get the opportunity. Goal kicking probably also slightly better than Pollard's.
    14. JP Pietersen: Will be picked for his defensive capabilities, both tackling and fielding high balls. His cross defence will also be crucial.

If he wasn't our cunt I'd really dislike him.

Despite the try I'm still unconvinced by May. A total token presence when competing for high balls. Butchered his second chance. Two tries in the first quarter could have made it a very different game - not that we deserved a win.

Farrell...what can you say? It's not too late to cement someone else - anyone else - before the WC. Everything seems to founder on the Reef of Farrell...
