Yeah, his use of the Force seems so crude, for lack of a better word I guess. When he uses it its kinda shaky. Like the blaster shot doesn't just stop, its vibrating. I'm not sure if that's the way they're going to portray the Force in this, but it seemed Rey's used of the Force was much smoother. Almost like she's a natural and he's trying too hard to be as good as Vader.

He fucking rocks the beard too. Looked like a total Jedi Master.

I reckon it has something to do with his harnessing of the Dark Side. They did a great effort in portraying his use of it as much more crude, like he is having to force (no pun intended <_<) it to bend to his will. Everything about him just seems aggressive and crude, I love it.

Yeah the more I think about Kylo the more I like.

Also Poe Dameron is a total baller and I wish we got more of him. I mean, I get it. Having the new rogueish Han Solo type character in the spotlight when you have the ACTUAL Han Solo is a bit silly and would be too much, but I really hope we see more of him in Episode 8. Hopefully a bromance between him and Finn.

This was my biggest annoyance with the film. They just went back to what was Ep.I and didn't challenge the audience in any way. I thought that was a bit of a cop out.

I also think it was too joyful and not dark enough.

AND WHY THE FUCK DOES LEIA HUG RAE AFTER THE SCENE OF HAN SOLO'S DEATH AND JUST IGNORES CHEWY!!!! WTF!!!!

I'm 100% sure Kylo Ren will come to the light side, its a pretty obvious arc.

Oh and the film was good, but nothing amazing. If you're going to fanboy/girl it then its great but as just a Cinephile its good.

Mate it's fucking excellent. I'm that keen to see it again. It was the best cinema experience I have ever had.

Kylo gets better the more I think about him. His lightsaber sounds amazing, his use of the force is crude but powerful. He will be a powerful enemy for Rey and I think she may think about the dark side for a bit next episode.

I'd love for them to go against Star Wars convention and show Kylo Ren's progression from will he/won't he to full Sith Lord motherfucker and Rey just be pure, not tempted, just an absolute weapon with the Force and have them have a massive fight at the end - pure good vs. evil. I highly doubt it'll happen, but it;d be sick for it to be a little different.

Enjoyed it on the whole but I thought the humour was a bit much in places, seemed like they tried to crack a joke at every opportunity.

Judging from this film they won't go against convention, but i totally agree. I would be sweet to see Luke come back train Rey, then Rey and Ren fight but kill each other, it becomes this battle of will as they try and pull each other to the light/dark side.

I think they will go further and further away from the beats they're hitting. Showing us Kylo's turmoil between light and dark this early is a massive deviation. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him die in the next 2 films.

Unlike Vader who was just portrayed straight up as a bad guy until midway through Return of the Jedi, we see that Kylo is conflicted and confused. Genuinely have no idea where this will go, they could go the opposite direction and have him turn fully to the darkside, or basically reverse Anakin's story and have the "new Vader" fully turn to the light.

Watched this last night. Think it deserves 2 reviews from both points of view:

    As a stand alone movie

I thought it was fucking awesome. It had a strong storyline, emotive characters, humour and action. It was a gripping watch and even mother (who typically hates sci fi films) thoroughly enjoyed it.

As the 7th Star Wars movie

As a pretty big star wars fan with a fair degree of star wars knowledge, I was actually disappointed. I feel like i came out of the film and all i wanted to talk about were the issues i had the film (from a star wars pov). I will raise each issue i had and leave it up for debate.

Kylo Ren - Huge disappointment. Why does even have a mask? His abilities as 'sith apprentice' are very strange. He shows an impressive control of the force using mind control and to move objects (namely people) however his abilities (or lack of) with a lightsaber are a joke. The end battle has to be the single worst lightsaber duel in all 7 films. This lad is meant to be Snokes apprentice and the next big baddy, but he struggles to defeat a stormtroooper with a lightsaber and Rei who has never held a lightsaber before. (obviously she will naturally have some abilities, but come on, she has had no training whatsoever) and Ren has been trained by Luke and Snoke.

Storyline - As Athers said earlier, its so bloody similiar to New Hope its borderline suspicious. They even had the X Wing pilots flying through the narrow gorge to get the fuel cells

Leia - We know from Return of the Jedi Leia has abilities in the force, so why does she not bloody use them? ok, she is the general of the resistance but she doesn't do much. wasted talent. still quite hot though!

Snoke - Who is this guy and were the fuck did he come from? AFAIK he has never featured or been mentioned before in any of the star wars and yet within the gap between return of the jedi and this film, he has developed to the Leader of the First Order. Desperately feel as if i need some background on him before i can gauge whether he is worth being intimadated by (hope it develops in the next 2 films)

The lightsaber - This lightsaber calls to Rei when they are in the cantena at Mas' place. However when she and Finn are together watching Han die etc etc the lightsaber didnt 'call' to her then? or she didnt realise it was in the pocket of the black guy 1 metre away?

So yeah, a few issues i found annoying really. People will undoubtedbly disagree with some of the points. But as a film i really enjoyed it :)

Rey has some sort of ability with her massive fuck off stick thing - so that could explain a little bit about her defeating Kylo Ren - also Athers iirc mentioned it looked as though Kylo was hesitant to go for the kill - only going for the disarm.

The way Finn held his own though - despite being raised in combat - was a little odd, especially as Kylo wouldn't give two shits about him. In fact, he hated him and badly wanted him dead.

Your points regarding Kylo. Firstly I think he wears a mask as a sort of homage to Darth Vader, he's trying to replicate him and 'finish what he started.' Secondly, yes he is extremely strong in the force which has me believe that Snoke knows very little of the art of duelling with lightsabers but he understands the nuances of the Force and has trained Kylo to be a very strong force user who lacks in the lightsaber department. This may end up hurting him in the future.

PS: I'll be defending Kylo tooth and nail because he has potential to be an excellent villain.

  16. Riddy JH Ridd

Unveiling the mask so early has kinda ruined his image for me tbh. your answer to the second point is a good one. We are lead to believe he has been trained by Luke so he should still have average lightsaber abilities at this stage imo.

Also, how the fuck did Mas end up with Luke's Bespin lightsaber? this definitely needs explaining in future films.

  17. Harps ZAF MacDonald

Yeah but do we know how long Luke trained him for? It said he has been in exile for 10 years? Meaning Kylo would have been ~15 years old when he killed the rest of the Jedi. Id say that would leave him with average saber skills at best and Snoke has just been focusing on the Force side of things.

Seeing this again tomorrow btw. I need my fix.

    Eh it was pretty good.

  20. Riddy JH Ridd

Did you not see my post where i said he should average lightsaber abilities? :/

I feel like i have a lot more questions than answers, which i don't think is necessarily a bad thing in the 1st film of a trilogy, but as long as the questions get answered and not just swept under the carpet.
