If you can't get up for an Origin match you can get fucked IMO.

By that standard you'd be red-penning some of the Qld players during the dynasty.

There's a difference between not trying and being off your game. You're exaggerating what happened, plain and simple because you want Wighton.

If we take anything out of COVID I hope it's that the shorter season is a huge success as is Origin at the end of the year.

I'd be all for a shorter season with a longer rep calendar at the end of the year along with the WCC or even a World Club series.

Shorter season will never happen, but origin at the end of year just might..

    Mm I doubt it

I can't believe they're still having it on Wednesday nights. I imagine there's schedule clashes but surely origin takes precedence as the main event and whoever's there normally can go to the Gold Coast and somewhere else in Sydney for a week.

Origin at the end of the year doesn't work. You could go into an origin not having played any footy for 5-6 weeks.

I'd much rather have it at the end than the shit we normally have.
Fucking up the NRL for 6 weeks to cram it in mid season is dumb.

Should be end of season, or stand alone rep weeks during season

Yeah this is a big worry. Some players are going to be not match fit, which would lead into the concern of selection bias towards players from teams going deeper into the finals. Would hate for it to end up like the end of season tests where 6 players from the GF winning team get picked.

I actually think players not playing for a few weeks is an over-rated concern tbh, but what isn't over-rated is the idea that coaches and selectors will really buy into it and pick really retarded teams like the Test ones.

Yep, stand alone Origin weeks around May-June-July is how it shout be.

Like most other sports that hold world cups or other representative competitions post season.

The break would do them the world of good, of more concern would be the group of players who went deep into the finals which is the state we currently find ourselves where players are carrying fatigue/injuries back and forth from rep footy to club footy.

They already buy into early buy into whoever the
March premiers are and to an extent who the premiers were last year. I'm not sure it would increase the number of retarded selections.

You're right that recent form plays too much of a part, but good players could be playing well and still be looked over just becuase they haven't played in a while if it's post-season. It'll definitely make the selections slightly more retarded IMO.

Overall I think it's a much less stupid idea than what usually happens (midseason games but without actually cancelling NRL games, and making teams play without rep players), but there will definitely be some drawbacks.

Better for QLD Tbh. Way more room for fuckups by Blues selectors.

The interregnum would be shorter if we only had a top 6 and thus a three week finals series rather than 4.

1 and 2 should be heavily rewarded, and it's a much fairer comp if there's no Origin interruptions.

1 vs winner of 5v6, 2 vs winner of 3v4.

Also more opportunity for players to do something stupid over the Mad-monday period and be rubbed out.

Harry Grant for QLD no.9 tbh

Locked it in a while ago.

Brian Kelly playing on the wing is so frustrating. Was hoping he would put his name in contention for that left centre position if they're still not going to consider Latrell Mitchell.

    Big fan.
