The standard of footy was pretty poor. That kick from Luai shot any chance penrith had.

Melbourne were clearly the better side when the game was a contest. Gus doesnt think 22-0 at ht was a true reflection. Well 26-20 doesnt exactly tell the story either.

If penritth hadve just played their natural game that second half they'd have got up. Lost the plot after that Papenhuyzen try for 10-12 minutes. Their strength is rolling up the field for 3 tackles and letting Korisau sneak a 6 again. There was time to do it and they had the cattle, was literally saying at half time to the crew that it'll be one for the ages, the papenhuyzen try freaked them out.

Would've preferred any team bar storm (probably even the roosters) to have lost too, storm are just pointless and their club is soulless. I think everyone finds their dominance pretty boring.

Really felt for Edwards spilling that kick late. Don't know how the fuck Mansour didn't take Vunivalu down on that intercept. They relied far too much on kikau, a few dumb plays over using him, thought Yeo was fantastic as always.

Disagree with that, Penrith were bashing them, rubbish intercept from cleary, scrappy Queenslander/storm try for smith. I was thinkin penrith were a legitimate chance of making up the difference at half time, storm were not the dominant team over the first 40.

I've posted in here multiple times about my disapproval of May getting game time off the bench, but Naden was rat shit in defence against the Roosters, there was a few times he just totally slipped off tackles, as well as the late dumb penalty.

I assume the thinking was that they had enough game breakers around the paddock without him and thought May was more solid, I'd hope in a year where theres a proper reserve grade Whare takes that centre spot, but it was too much of s risk when he'd played fuck all

whare should have had earlier game time

Yeah so that kinda dissipated in 4 minutes eh? It was all one way traffic.

Dude, seriously the game was something of a contest for 45 minutes. And Melbourne won it 26-0. Say what you want about the mid-field, Melbourne didnt concede a point and Penrith defended poorly.

Gotta love those scrappy Qlder tries. lol. Take that one out and even Vunivalu's. Cool....its still 16-0 at ht in a GF.

Penrith got the better of transitions and yardage sets in the first half no doubt but their play in the red zone at both ends, defensivley and offensively was poor and they just gave away too many dumb penalties. They got taught a lesson in execution last night. Pass selection from Cleary in particular was poor, the intercept he threw was frustration at an opportunity he had missed earlier in the game to throw the exact same pass but it just wasn’t on this time around. Rainbow pass is for a rushing defence, Vunivalu was 5 metres behind the play, the complete opposite of a rushing defence.

Not sure if it was nervous energy or just lack of experience but a little bit more composure from Penrith and they go in no more than a try down at half time and it’s game on in the 2nd half.

“I get it, everyone wants an exciting finish but we are just the same as them, stop trying to pick little things out of our game to make and exciting finish” - Cam Smith

I didn’t catch this live as I couldn’t hear the TV where I was watching the game but fuck me how is that not a send off? You can’t say that shit to a ref...

Sweet revenge for 2003. Wet games are always garbage and will oft never reflect who the better team really is.

Is Luai actually good or nah? Prior to this year I thought he was nigh the shittest half in the game. Individually talented sure but completely impotent as a half against any proper defence. The rule changes this year suited Penrith more than any other team with Api and mobile forwards and Luai gets to play off the back of that running with ad hoc stuff.

Anyone else probably would have been.

Really hope Smith goes another year, with either Storm or Titans/Broncos. He is going to transition into being one of the best coaches of the next era too.

  14. Tartmaster AJ James

I really just don't see him playing for another club.

I defo think he'll come to an assistant coaching type role with Tits/Broncs (hopefully Tits), but not playing

I know he will already be loaded, but it would be tough to say no to a million dollar gig.

I vote he is NRL standard half but very mediocre one. Ranked about 20th out of the 32 regular halves in the league. Bear in mind I am a new fan of league so that is my humble opinion only.
He is a confidence player. When he is on he will be great. When he is behind a dominant pack. When the chips are down and in the heat confidence players dissapear.
I would never have him on the Warriors. Would be happier with our guys ahead of him
    1) Kodi
    2) CHT
    3) Jayden (if he passes train and trial)

Want to no part of Luai. Someone else can have him. He should be the NRL. Just not on my team.

Luai is the real deal IMO. Stylistically he reminds me a little bit of Thurston, the way he does so much of his footwork and dummies before he even engages the line, just constantly drifting across the field looking for an opportunity asking a million and one questions.

It’s exciting to see players like him and Dylan Brown start to come into First Grade, the dearth of creative halves in the NRL of late has been concerning.

    Good points on Luai

I don't know how I feel about dylan brown. On one hand he is the future Kiwi 5/8th and creates mega shape to the back line every time he injects himself on the other hand he looks over coached and hardly ever shows x factor.
Would have him before Luai mind you and would rate Brown in the 2nd tier of halves

Luai is a genuinely creative player, can spark something from nothing rather than just execute a plan. Not just in a helta skelter dummy and go way where speed or similar gives the illusion of creativity, he's got a decent eye when it comes to playing what's in front of him.

I think his and Penriths over reliance on Kikau diminishes that at times and can make him seem a little one dimensional, but he showed in the prelim v souffs that he can create chances from nothing in a big game.

He's got that really competitive niggly streak that sees him back up a lot as well which is always good to see.
