    Which they just did.

Weird recruitment strategy from NQ. Drinkwater is your best option at 1 and 6, and he probably won't even play there unless the shift million dollar man to the wing, or one of the new highly paid halfbacks to bench or ISC.

Dearden apparently is on nowhere near as much as what was reported.

The more I think about it having a back up half on 200-300k isn't that outrageous.

Losing a starting half is so hard to replace, we've seen the value of Benji Marshall this year as a genuine backup option.

Probably better off skimping on your forwards a little bit to have some genuine depth in the halves. The more unstructured the footy becomes the truer this will hold.

    Less than this?:

Nah you were right. I (and others) thought it was a million a season, though.

Who the fuck thought Dearden was getting 1m/year? No club would be that stupid.

Dearden would have taken anything tbh. Broncos didn't offer him anything because they wanted him to earn it by performing well but he was doing SFA. I think what Cows will be paying him is about right for a backup half who may come good down the track.

What do you think of Staggs as a 6 Jazman?

  11. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

Not much tbh. Honestly think he'd be a better fullback.

He cramps up most weeks at centre. He couldn't handle the running at 1, would be lazier than Isucko.

I'd reckon he'd be a good second receiver, but wouldn't really work in a split field set up. He is a strong agile runner that beats people with his feet and body not a natural ball player nor particularly creative from what I've seen. But he can get through the line so if you have good support players around him he will be lethal.

I doubt his cramps are from overworking, it's more likely from his body being static for most the the game, then suddenly being called to explode to perform a power play.

As far as laziness goes; I think it would be worth giving him a shot there to see if he could adjust to it like Latrell has at Souffs (who has also been fingered as lazy). It's not like it would make the Broncos any worse.

We'd need a really dominant half-back who controls both sides and does the organisation and playmaking. And really, the only guy who does that these days is DCE.

Staggs is the kind of player you want getting the ball 2 passes wide of the ruck. Centre limits him to 1 side so it's not optimal seeing he is far and away our best weapon. Fullback would enable him to play both sides and reduce the tackles he needs to make.

Thinking laterally; he could possibly play a 90s Lock role (which I think will return across the board, but not for another season or so and not for the spooners). However, he probably wouldn't handle the defensive load.

That is one reason why is be keen for Adam Reynolds. I think whilst maybe he lacks some creativity he is a very good organising half and could do all the kicking which is important and he has been making a primarily ball running half look good for years now.

I don't think Reynolds is good enough to be the sole traditional half at the Broncos and bring success. At least not without chasing a better hooker. If Reynolds comes in alone for 4 years, he wont last more than 2.

Look at the decent sides over the past few years where 1 half was primarily a ball-runner. Souths have Cook, Raiders have Hodgson, Melbourne had Smith/has Grant. They all had a hooker who consistently added a creative element. Whether it was ball playing or running.

  17. stupersteve03 SJ Cambridge

Certainly agree that we would need more out of hooker. But Reynolds appears to have a strong voice and is an excellent primary kicking option so I think you just need to put either a creative lock out hooker.

Yeah four years on the money that the Broncos are throwing at him stinks of their desperation of a player like him.

Four years is awfully dangerous to give to a 31 year old, especially when it’s reportedly $900k a year.

Am I the only one surprised Sharkies seem so cold on Shaun Johnson? I'd have thought he and Reynolds would work nicely together, then flick Moylan.

The talk is Shaun has completely shut up shop since Morris was walked.
