Expansion?

Well he’s right. The NRL itself is to blame for that.

Stormare such a good example of this no Harry Grant, Munster or Papenhuyzen, just about the 3 best players in the league in their positions, still piling 40 points on away from home and have won what 9 straight by 13 or more?

Redcliffe has the nod for 2023.

They have reportedly signed Bennett for 3 years, which is key for attracting players. Now they just need to make sure the bulk of the talent they sign are Queenslanders.

I'm pretty stoked cause Redcliffe is less than an hour away from me.

Stupid not calling them Redcliffe Dolphins. Moreton Bay or North Brisbane sounds shit.

Grew up playing against Reddy. Always hated them just because they were such a strong club. But i'll support them. Live about 10 minutes from Dolphin Oval so it'll be cool when they play some games there.

Bennett is pretty massive for them getting off to a strong start.

I think the logic is that calling them Moreton Bay would get some Sunshine Coast + Caboolture based fans which they otherwise might not have if they just stayed Redcliffe.

But yeah, Redcliffe just rolls off the tongue much better.

Aren't they just going to be 'Dolphins'?

  8. Magic AJ Parker

    Yeh I’m confused by it.

They don’t want to give themselves a geographical location because they don’t want to alienate anyone. Sounds like some bullshit driven by a PR company. Admittedly my geographical knowledge of Brisbane is next to none but surely even just calling yourselves North Brisbane would make more sense?

North Brisbane would be fucking gay, and I live in North Brisbane.

They should be called Redcliffe. End of.

I would be fine with Moreton Bay, or Redcliffe, but 'The Dolphins,' which is what they are going for apparently, is stupid.

Just 'the Dolphins' feels like the worst of all worlds.

I like it because everyone will still call them Redcliffe.

    Fixed.

Yikes... Someone needs to call godaddy.

First I searched for it and it looked fake AF, so I went via the Official Redcliffe page...

Wow. The longer I follow NRL and see things like this, the Dally Ms etc, the more I realise how close are local club was to NRL standard. Dead set looks like a volunteer on a group teams committee has made it.

The byes have been pretty farcical this year. Any thoughts on a time line to the next team? A bit of reading says WA really aren't keen on any relocated Bears/Jets/whatever, instead going for their own thing.

I keep seeing the PNG idea pop up, would be pretty cool but feels like WA or Queensland is way more feasible.

One thing I'd thought of was ending the Wests Tigers. Have them go back to Western Suburbs Magpies, base them out of Campbelltown/Liverpool proper and piss off the weird amalgamation, given Wests bring in all the money anyway. Ship the Tigers part over to WA as the Western Tigers, give them one game a year at Leichardt.

  18. Magic AJ Parker

The weird part is all the money comes out of their leagues club in Ashfield more closely linked to the inner-west of Sydney (Balmain’s area) than it is the South West of Sydney (Campbelltown/Liverpool).

It’s something that has always confused me not having really known the in’s and outs of the Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers prior to their merger. Would be odd to see them seperate, go back to basing themselves out of the South-western/Macarthur region of Sydney yet still be funded by a club in the inner-west.

There’s no doubt they will announce expansion before 2027 though when the next broadcasting rights are up for negotiation. Not sure what the government’s links to it are but apparently they are pushing the NRL to consider a combined PNG/Pasifika team.

See the trouble Redcliffe had in recruiting players, now imagine trying to get cunts into a PNG system.

The next club should be Ipswich. If they were smart, they'd try calling it something coon based like Ipswich Elders and get as much free shit as they can from government and NRL.

Bears board people tell me they're all on board with the Pasifika Bears idea, based essentially at NSO but playing a couple of games in PNG, Samoa and Tonga a year and deliberately recruiting players who fit that brand. Vlandys apparently loves the idea.
