CPL Cricket 2019-20 Rules/Format/Changes etc (new rules/comments post#51)

First off, here are some basic bits from a 2009 post that still apply now:

    Changes

    - I'll actually be using a brand new simulator that I created myself, for the first time. It's largely based off the one I used for years on CricSim to sim one day cricket, with some new features and tweaks.

    - ODIs will count for some players. They'll only count when it'd improve the player, or when they haven't played (or bowled) the a large sample of games (or overs). ODIs will be treated pretty harshly (essentially as high level domestic or A-cricket even though they're internationals) so they won't be OP, but it should make things a bit more realistic for players who don't play a lot of FC cricket simply because they're playing heaps of white ball stuff. I don't want to give examples of current players, but Yuvraj Singh and Trent Johnston are good examples of past players who might've benefited due to not playing a lot of First Class cricket for differing reasons. When we're seeing Jos Buttler, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy and Aaron Finch picked for Tests out of ODIs, the idea that high level ODI players might be selected in a competition like this based on their ODI output is entirely realistic IMO, so I've created a mechanism for it.

    - Domestic one day cricket will NOT count.

    - The change I'm most excited about: having full control over the new simulator code has allowed me to incorporate individual player strengths and weaknesses. So based on their real-life careers, some bowlers will be better at bowling to left handers than right handers, some batsmen will struggle against left arm quicks, etc. This should make things feel a little more realistic and also encourage people to pick balanced bowling attacks.

    Format

    - 24 teams of 18 players each
    - 23 rounds
    - 8 team finals series
    - Home pitch conditions
    - 10 home games, 10 away games, 3 neutral games for each team (subject to change, but you'll definitely all get the same amount of each)
    - Elimination finals and grand final played on neutral grounds, non-elimination finals played at the home of higher/further progressed team
    - There will be injuries, but they'll be largely random so don't worry about avoiding injury-prone players per se
    - There will be some Second XI type games for your unselected players, possibly not every round, format TBA

    Draft Rules

    - After 12* hours you're skipped and can catch up your pick at any time
    - Harassing people to make their picks on other sites and social media is encouraged
    - There will be a short window after the draft to make trades
    - Morgie is heavily advised not to trade

*I'm going to make this 24 hours in Round 1 just to give people time to know it's started

    Cheat Sheets

We did just have a CW version of this, with the teams drafted in January-ish this year. Here are the stats pages from that if you want to have a look at who did well then:

Query regarding younger generation of players, particular currently playing in FC cricket but expected to make the step up to Test cricket. Will there be any updating of their stats overtime, either during the draft or maybe (if it happens during a second cricsim season etc.). Just because it may change the later rounds of drafting for me. New at this!

What's the number next to each pick in the pick list? e.g. Kane Williamson (277906)

Regular season maybe too long? Simming 276 games is a lot, might I suggest having two conferences?

Is the start of the draft the cut off for matches included in the database?

Nah it'll be some time shortly after the draft. Probably January 31st.

    I'm considering this ftr.

I think the biggest downside to it would be the chance of someone really looking forward to some sort of grudge match against a rival and not getting to play them at all.

How would people feel about having an Australian conference and a world conference? It'd maintain most of the rivalries that way. We have 11 Australian draft teams, and we could either throw in the Dan/Howe combination, or ElvisSpike, or Gazza and call it Australian Residents.

Australian conference? What we'd all like to know is whether Skippos will play in both.

    Hate it, conference stuff sucks.

If you hate it then I'll probably shelve the idea given this almost certainly wouldn't exist without your pestering. I do worry about the possibility of me just getting burnt out/distracted/bored and taking an unscheduled several week break in the middle of the comp given it's so long though. Make sure you pester me lots if that happens.

As long as I play Benny/Julian at minimum once.

  20. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah you definitely will play them both either way. You'll either play everyone (probably) or just play the other Aussies (yolo, fuck Athlai) before finals.
