CPL Reboot - Retentions

Just so we don't completely break from past seasons, I'll allow three retentions going forward. If you're a new team, ignore this.

Your first retention is in place of a round one pick, second in place of round two, third in place of round three.

You can choose to retain nobody and have a round one pick, completely up to you.

The only restriction I'll set is that you can't retain two players of the same position. I know how hard KPPs are to draft and find so just would prefer blokes didn't retain their two KPFs or something.

Post them in here. If you don't post them by the time the draft starts I'll assume you're not retaining anyone.

Retentions:

1. Skippos - N. Fyfe - J. Cameron - N. Naitanui
2. MASTERS M. Bontempelli - L. Dahlhaus - H. Bennell
3. morgieb
4. BoshtrichBurger R. Gray - A. Gaff - P. Cripps
5. Theo - none
6. jimmy_c8 T. Cloke - JP. Kennedy - T. Boak
7. brettman135 - S. Pendlebury - C. Hooker - S. May
8. Mousey H. Taylor - C. Rioli - J. Stringer

No retentions:
1. THB
2. Shagger
3. MP

This is bullshit, that basically just gives 8 people a leg up on the three of us that didn't play last year?

What's your reasoning for this Skippos out of curiosity?

3. Skippos SM Morgan

It's not a leg up. If you'd been a part of this in the past, you'd realise that I'm normally pretty measured in decisions. I floated this in the thread and nobody objected then.

The three 'new' teams get the first picks in the draft.

A draft which will have all but 24 players in it and available.

Considering that eight teams are folding, it means their best players too will be in the draft pool. A draft pool you get priority access to.

I'd be baffled if you guys are any worse off after three rounds than the incumbent teams. This just allows those sides to maintain a little bit of history.

Yeh but if someone who has pick 12 chooses to retain Franklin and I want to draft him at pick 1, how is that fair?

5. Skippos SM Morgan

Yeah look, I can't be fucked spending half an hour going through it and posting a detailed analysis. I've looked into it. You'll be fine.

If we didn't do retentions, you wouldn't have pick 1. You might have pick 12. So you wouldn't get the bloke anyway.

There are 10 teams folding. Those teams are straight in the pool. Some of those players include

Dixon, Deledio, Griffen, Hurn, Armitage, Franklin, Roughead, Sidebottom, Martin, McDonald, Yeo, O'Meara, Watson, Ellis, Tex, Birchall, Carlisle, Motlop, B. Smith, Ward, NRiewoldt, JSelwood, Hawkins, Hodge, Sandi, Dusty, Wingard, Wines, Gibson, Goddard, Jacobs, Rance, Steven, Lecras, Jenkins, Shill, Dangerfield, Talia, Guthrie, Hannebery, Ziebell, Dev Smth

Not only that, but there'll be heaps of players from the 8 retaining sides outside their top three.

If the three new teams with their priority access picks take

1: Roughead, Selwood, Rance
2: Franklin, Deledio, Jacobs
3: Dangerfield, Wingard, Walker

Let's say - as they'd be likely able to. Then I personally guarantee you, that by the start of round four, these three teams will probably be better off than the teams who make retentions.

I've set it up so those who retain aren't any better off.

If you'd like to continue to be obtuse when you know literally fuck all about how I've planned this, you're welcome to not bother.

If you wish to play, as you're welcome to - then you can play under the rules I've put in place. I've looked over it and ensured nobody gets an advantage. If you don't trust me on that, you're not obliged to play.

I think THB just wants to know what you've planned. Pretty simple to have some clarity.

7. The Half Back JW Taylor

I'm just asking for an explanation and why. For example if person A in the previous games picked Roughead round 1, Selwood round 2 and Rance round 3 then Player B misses out of the chance of picking Rance in the first round because someone else has them retained from a round 3 pick.

If I know fuck all about the comp I'm wanting to play, then inform me about it pal.

I want to play but I need some clarification about this above rule.

AND if these retentions go ahead, does that mean the players that are joining this year get the higher draft picks because of it?

I've explained it. I'm not sure how I can re-explain it to make it any more clear, if you don't understand maybe someone else can have a go as I don't know how to convey it now.

9. The Half Back JW Taylor

Yeh so basically the three of us that have joined this year are at a disadvantage.

Are we going to counter that disadvantage by starting with higher draft picks?

You're not at a disadvantage, read my above post. I've highlighted exactly.

There is literally no chance that the three of you will begin round four of the draft with a worse starting three than clubs who have retained three players.

You're being obtuse for the sake of it here.

As stated in the OP, retentions are in place of the first three picks. If all eight clubs retain three players, then you get the leftover players from their clubs and ALL players from the 10 clubs who folded available to pick, for three rounds.

If Jimmy retains his best three players - Josh P. Kennedy, Boak and Heppell, it'll mean he'll enter the draft in round four. Meanwhile you get three priority picks before he even enters the draft. So you three would have the above players available, and you'd start round four with Franklin, Deledio and Jacobs while Jimmy would start with JPK, Boak and Heppell - a significantly weaker threesome.

Retentions are in place of early picks. What would you prefer? To be able to pick three players from your one team, or to share TEN teams amongst three blokes.

It's actually advantageous to opt out of retentions. If you choose to make them, you'll be worse off, it's just set up so it's not a 'restart' but a re-boot, and there's some link between the seasons.

if you still don't understand what I'm saying, I'm done. But I assure you that you are no worse off by starting anew.

Hey Skip, can we trade the retention rights to one of our old players to someone for their 3rd round pick or something?

18. Skippos SM Morgan

Probably easier to just retain that player then trade them for the bloke said coach selects. Makes it less complicated.

Certainly don't want to regulate trades but given this is primarily a draft game I'll intervene in trades where Mastersblokes get smashed.

I was just hoping to retain three and then gain a third round pick by giving another of my old players away, but I'm going to guess that's taking it a bit too far?
