No point dropping Pearce for Mullen, would gain nothing from it. Edit: Actually would mean he couldn't play for Newcastle for at least a week so could be gun
Mullen will actually give his outside men good early ball. He's also a better kicker and is far more dangerous IMO. One left foot step from Pearce in 80 minutes is not even close to being enough.
I'd have to say, Matt Scott produced probably the best opening 20 minutes from a prop that I've ever seen in an Origin. In the first half alone, he racked up 100m, 13 tackles and 2 offloads. Plus a line break.
lol @ Sonic saying QLD can't win without Inglis. We just won without him, Folau, Johnson and Shillington.
Scoreline was a little flattering towards us but still some good signs imo. Borris was shit and he hasn't really ever done anything at origin level tbh... I'd honestly consider Stewart or Hayne but there's no way Sticky would go for it and he's probably worth another game rather than going for whatever 'natural' wingers we have left. Only players that get dropped for mine are; Scott - 2 games full of shitness King - Same as above. Creagh has a question mark over him too. Personally I'd bring in Watmough, TLL & Dwyer. Few players who are borderline too but don't want to mess with the team too much. Backs were good imo, Jennings really surprised me... less drop ball and it'll go a long way. I really don't mind Dugan ball playing as much as others on here especially with Pearce as the halfback. Halves didn't really create much but then again it's not really a great attacking side. Soward played pretty much how I expected for his debut looked a little out of place at times, Pearce was awesome in defence but his decisions in attack left a lot to be desired but when it mattered he came up trumps... Backrow was the one position we had superiority imo. Bird is such a gun, love him. Front row lost us the game... Mannah seriously needs to get some more game time I'd start him in Game 2 tbh. Creagh playing front row when we picked 4 front rowers is a massive stuff up. Hookers, hard to really drop Young after that debut didn't put a foot wrong tbh, Ennis was average shit kick just before QLD scored the match winning try but can't really blame him they still had to go a long way.
If Pearce defended well then I'm an astronaut. Thaiday raped him. He also over-read the play a fair bit. 24 tackles with 7 misses. Decent for a half I suppose but overall, it's not what I'd call awesome. And how on earth did Pearce come up trumps? Other than a good piece of support play what did he do? I thought he was shit.
Slater's miss on Jennings was pathetic. Take the man with the ball ffs. If he had, Jennings would've been tackled just like last time Billy saved us from a Jennings try. Or if he had passed, at least the conversion wouldn't have been a gimme. NSW scoring in the 65th and 69th minutes were what gave the Blues fans real hope. No points and trailing all night then they come up with 2 in 5 minutes to take the lead.
Agree about Ennis's kick though. It was garbage and was only on 4th when they'd made it back to half way. Another ruck and they can make an attacking kick to really drive QLD into a corner. 3 tackles and 2 offloads later, and QLD were 30m out from NSW's line ready to win the match. lol, one tackle later, Matty Scott charged over the top of Ennis, got a quick play-the-ball, stretched the Blues, and Slater scored the match winner.
Yeh he over read the play a couple of times but covered for himself... in contrast he made two great tackles on his own goal line. In terms of his decision making when to play short and out the back I thought he was poor but deciding to play out the back on last tackle when you're on your own 50 to take the lead is coming up trumps when it matters afaic. In terms of directing his forwards around he did the best he could there's no way he was shit. He was solid..
Yeah. He went off after 25. Then came back on for the last 10. Not a bad way to use him but seriously, Farah would've been so much better IMO.
I can't really blame him I suppose. He had very little go-forward to play off. I just don't think he realises that he's, at the very least, secondarily in charge of creating points. I really don't think he's suited to Origin unless you've got Mr. Brett Daley Fittler Kenny outside him.
NSW made 82 more tackles than QLD. Ennis has been sighted for stomping on Cronk's calf. Wouldn't have hurt but still, fucking dog act.
QLD's starting pack ran for 670m. NSW's 360m. QLD's bench, 290m. NSW's bench 120m. And judging by the way Stuart was talking in the press conference, there won't be a single unnecessary change made. Thus, expect King and Snowden to be retained. Hacks.
You know, I wouldn't be surprised if other props like Tolman are happy they are not getting picked atm. The way NSW uses their props has been shocking for at least 3 years now, he'd just look like a massive shit cunt out there.
