    It won't though, what people don't understand is that the NRL penalised the tackle on the field, the NRL handed down a grade 1 charge, it was only when it when to an independent hearing that the charge was dismissed.

    To dismiss the charge completely like they did they had to deem that it was not a shoulder charge. It doesn't set any kind of precedence or change anything.

    I think the NRL's reaction to it in off-season will be to purely change the grading system so that a grade 1 charge will come with less points meaning it's not an automatic 1 game ban.

    Inconsistency is a reflection of incompetence, I'd prefer the alternative a mildly competent governance of the game even if they do fuck up some dumb shit like the shoulder charge. It's not like this is a brand new admin dealing with this issue for the firs time and they're still trying to establish a precedent.

    Nah, the rules is rules crowd, the Helen Lovejoys etc., will always win in the long run...Far too much pervasive apathy to push back against.

    Yeah I don't agree with that, plainly. It clearly enlarges the area under which such tackles can now be assessed as other than a shoulder charge, despite clearly being one. I'll take that as a minor win.

    As usual they've made a rod for their own backs. They make a ridiculous rule and then fail at enforcing it precisely because it's ridiculous, and then everyone jumps on them for failing to enforce said stupid rule.

    Naming Aubusson at halfback makes it seem like they're just pinning their hopes on grinding out a slow defensive win. I doubt it will work against Melbourne, Smith is too good at probing and Roosters aren't going to be able to kick their way out of trouble. No idea why they've named Momirovski on the bench instead of o'sullivan.

    I think they're just trolling a bit with that, given Sullivan and Cronk are both on the extended bench. O'Sullivan will definitely play IMO unless by some miracle Cronk does -- they may be dumb enough to bench him and not bring him on until the game is almost done, but surely they're not dumb enough to not play him at all.

    idk. that's usually how roosters vs storm games play out anyways. roosters pack can't get its usual roll on due to melbourne slowing down the ruck but they're good enough to just get out of trouble, kick it to the storm fullback who catches it on the full around their 30m line but because they've slowed the game down they can't do too much and just make it to the roosters 30 m line before kicking it into the corner or bombing it, and then it just repeats over and over until someone gets a penalty which for the roosters leads to a knock on or a random kick try or one latrell try and for melbourne just grubber/repeat set until they score or fail which begins the previous pattern all over again. But if the Roosters can't kick the ball far enough without Cronk that extra 10 metres makes too much difference, Roosters will just be hanging on for life all game.

    So what's the actual reason why the shoulder charge has been supposedly banned? Was there an incident where a player got hurt? Compared to what I normally expect of rugby (as someone who watches the GF only) it's barely even worth mentioning in terms of contact.
