Morgie's Draft Review S4

  1. Chewie JA Chewie

I've been trying to select ODIh4x players because it seems easier than trawling through random first class competitions to find players who might be good when I know nothing about those first class competitions so fingers crossed this works haha

  2. Chewie JA Chewie

A number of his list A games may count as ODIs because Cribb counts List A games between two countries as an ODI

  3. Phlegm SP Phlegm

i dont think zimbabweans will be that bad tbh. they have a lot of 'depth' of similar quality given half the test side is liable to take a county contract at short notice.

  4. morgieb MC Burridge

Hopefully Jarvis can rip some shit up.

  5. Cribbage RG Cribb

Their last series against SL was really close even though it was in SL.

I think since then SL have improved a bit while Zimbabwe had declined (mainly just due to a couple of players bailing really), but I wouldn't be surprised to see a close series.

  6. morgieb MC Burridge

OTOH their best two eligible players were then unavailable at that point IIRC.

Wasn't there like a really dodgy umpiring decision in that match that cost the Zimbos?

  7. Gazza GJ Weaver

    Who's picking Tatenda Taibu

  8. Dan DB Wayne

    I tried it.

    Do not recommend.

  9. Cribbage RG Cribb

Haha yeah Dan had already picked him by this point in the CW draft.

  10. Dan DB Wayne

Almost took a wicket for me though. Fucking dropped catches.

    Round 14
    1. StephenZA - Gerald Coetzee (596010)
This is a big risk. Coetzee has barely played any cricket. His reputation is excellent so I guess he might get fast-tracked into the international side and his sample size is good (if small) but right now he's the sort of pick that screams Rd 17/18 retention pick rather than being a genuine reserve.

    2. Athlai - Cam Fletcher (547764)
The A-team century helps, I guess. Seems a weak pick on paper but I guess there's not much by the way of keeping depth leftover, so you could do worse.

    3. Julian - Jeet Raval (277914)
A hard one to gague, his Test record isn't terrible but it's not amazing either, and his Plunket Shield form in recent times has been rather poor. So a lot depends on how his gash PS form scales him down. Nevertheless, should still have value around here.

    4. MrPrez - Umar Akmal (317273)
Again this one could go either way. His recent FC form has been solid without being incredible, whereas it's been a long time since he last scored runs at international level. I guess there's not that many batting options left over though.

    5. Alex - Leus du Plooy (595739)
Yeah, I think you got a bit Ruan Pietersen'd here. Did have an OK county season but it wasn't incredible and was in Div 2, and beyond that he's only really scored runs in SC cricket. Not great.

    6. DVMace09 - Jalaj Saxena (237199)
This on the other hand is a very good pick I think. Very good spinner who can bat a bit, and also opens for good measure too. Just a shame your team already has so many openers :p

    7. Chewie - Kashif Bhatti (41244)
Good pick. Probably the dominant Pakistani domestic spinner before this season and can bat a bit.

    8. Magrat Garlick - Usman Salahuddin (260519)
Pretty gun pick. Quality domestic form and has a lot of A-team runs. Should've gone a bit earlier than this.

    9. morgieb - Aizaz Cheema (39821)
A lot depends on how Pakistani cricket scales. But even if it scales poorly it's gonna be hard to nullify someone who averaged 12 out of being useful, especially given his most recent season in higher quality cricket was pretty decent.

    10. Baxter - Ahmed Shehzad
Would've been a great pick pre-suspension(?), but his most recent season was kind of meh and he didn't play the season before that. So that might hurt a bit, still I guess every pick around this point is a risk.

    11. spark!ptz - Mohammad Nawaz (3)
Would've been a very good pick three years ago; as it is I think there's no-rounder risk here. His bowling especially has dropped off a lot in recent times and his batting isn't all that special. Might still be decent I guess but it doesn't seem a particularly great pick at this point in the draft.

    12. Number 11 - Sheldon Cottrell
ODI form should probably make this pick decent, I think. Without it I wouldn't like it as he hasn't played much FC cricket recently and his stats there are nothing special for the conditions he bowls in.

    13. Cabinet96 - Tom Bailey (473193)
Awesome pick on 2018 form, a bit questionable otherwise. Should probably still be OK though.

    14. HeathDavisSpeed - Faheem Ashraf
I have similar thoughts here to Nawaz. The difference is I guess that Ashraf has played Tests recently and has done well (though his WPM isn't great) in them. His ODI form (which has a larger sample size) however has been poor and he hasn't played much recent FC cricket.

    15. Skippos - Gabe Bell
Pretty nice pick. Like a few Aussie medium-pacers is a bit in and out of his domestic team but his stats are still good and should be handy here.

    16. Phlegm - Srikar Bharat
Pretty meh pick on domestic form, but his A-team runs should help a lot. I think it makes sense at this point.

    17. jimmy_c8 - Tom Kohler-Cadmore
I thought it was a weak pick at the time as his FC record isn't great, but he's improved a fair bit recently and most of his recent seasons came in Div 1 too. Accordingly a fair enough pick.

    18. GoodAreasShane - Nandre Burger
Awesome name. Unfortunately he doesn't have a great track record in proper FC cricket thus far and his most recent season suggests he isn't improving all that much, either. I guess it's not a horrid pick as SA domestics isn't easy to bowl in, but I think there were better options left over.

    19. Howe and Dan - Zohaib Khan (43872)
Lots of ways this pick could go; gun recent record with the bat but with a lot of not outs, and he rarely seems to bowl these days. It's a decent pick on paper but might not work out at all.

    20. Gazza - Kyle Jamieson
Oddly his recent record really is nowhere near as good as I expected, and he's mostly failed for the A-team. He's someone I could see getting fast-tracked to higher honours which might help and his overall FC record is fine but it's merely an OK pick rather than the excellent one I initially thought it was.

    21. Hunter - Raymon Reifer
His overall FC record is good (and is coming off a great season) but in generally easy conditions and his performances at higher levels is really not that special. Still given his most recent West Indian domestic season you could do a lot worse.

    22. Captain - Aditya Sarwate
This is a great pick on paper, though there's the question mark about the quality of Indian domestics and unlike a few of the others he hasn't really done much in the stronger competitions. Still, definitely one of the better picks this round.

    23. Boobidy - D'Arcy Short
This isn't T20 cricket we're drafting for. His FC record is poor and his ODI one not great either. He's someone that might rise up the rankings if he does well in India but realistically shouldn't have been drafted.

    24. Benny - Ryan McLaren
I was under the impression his form had gone dramatically south before retiring. And to some extent it had, but he was still decent. Should have a lot of value this late, I think.

    Best pick:

Tough to say, not much by the way of steals. I'll say Salahuddin or Saxena. Forced to call, Saxena.

    Worst pick:

Short, but he might prove a decent pick if he has a good tour of India. Otherwise, I'll say du Plooy - Coeztee's down there too but the logic made a bit more sense.

  12. Baxter MJ Deane

Coetzee is gonna be n00bowned soooooo hard.

Worst pick Cheema. Worst pick of the entire draft IMO.

the bell pick was the most immediately impressive to me. raval another solid choice. the bloke still has plenty of test, A team and fc runs. the only hard part is judging which round to nab him because of his slump and i think he went late tbh. i almost took him instead of rutherford but he annoyed me in cwpl.

    bhatti is another nice choice.

  16. morgieb MC Burridge

Yeah I was a bee's dick away from picking Raval in R13 but the lack of recent form at any level was a bit of a turn-off.

  17. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

    Weatherald and Paine to DWTA

  18. Howe JHF Howe

    why?

  19. Benny BS Read

    Cos Morgie selected him imo

Athlai bagged it slightly because Pakistani domestics was really easy to bowl pace it. I think Cribb is just memeing though, lol.
