Was thinking sometimes they're a little low, just when players seem to literally not be able to get the serve in at all (like 2/3 players) is when it gets a little high. Yep, right after the finals.
Ah fair enough, makes sense tho since you never point out the regular amounts but only the occasional 30+ double faulter.
Finals Wes Welker has taken his first title after five sets of really watchable tennis. After some less than spectacular performances on serve during the competition, Welker really brought his A-game to the match. In the first set, Ryabovol was more than equal to the challenge, keeping a steady hand on the game. When the opportunity arose in Welker's third service game, Ryabovol made an easy winner to break, not needing the extra two break points available. The two were at stalemate for the rest of the set, neither being able to get a break. Into the second set and it was much the same. A tiebreak was looming at 6-5 on Ryabovol's serve, but the man from NSW got in a very good position with a set point. But Ryabovol somehow forced a deuce after a rally of 22. Welker got the advantage, and the set was finished off by a double fault, leveling the scores at one set all. Again, the third set was similar to the first two, but this time it was Ryabovol who took the set after much hard work. The fourth set was where the match really changed. Welker took a commanding lead immediately, and really stepped it up a notch. He hit winner after winner, and forced his opponent to make some really silly errors with the pressure he was creating. This dominance gave him the fourth set 6-2. The final set seemed much the same for Welker, but Ryabovol pulled something out of the bag too. He pushed his opponent on every point on his serve, unfortunately missed out on two break points which would almost have certainly given him the game. Unluckily though, it was Welker who was to gain the victory and win the title. In the doubles, it was a slightly simpler affair for Chris Warrington & Bruce Force, who after being pushed very hard in the first set, took it easy to take the championship in four sets. The first set required a tiebreak that seemed to go on for ever, but the British pair came through eventually. In the second, there was a mini-implosion on the part of Samuel Yates, who after some great play in the first set decided to go back to his usual self and be horrible at returning the ball. Of course, this was not limited to returning serves as he racked up the unforced errors. Naturally, Warrington/Force decided that a good game strategy would be to aim the ball at Yates and wait for the mistake. The set didn't take very long. Somehow, Burger and Yates took the third set by some margin. Perhaps they wanted revenge for previous matches, maybe Force thought it would be ok to nip to Subway with a certain female Canadian tennis player he had the hots for given the state of the match. The fourth however, with two men on the court Warrington and Force powered through to take their first official title. Congrats to both winners.
