No, not really. The point of the conservative batting was the fact that the top order have been completely blown away and they needed to score as many as they could in the 50 overs. Given they had much fewer resources than they'd normally have at that stage of the innings they had to take fewer risks to ensure they got a somewhere-near-decent score. Batting "normally" at that point would have just resulted in 120 all out. If they'd got out ages back, Astele and Hunt would've had to anchor and then there would have been no-one to hit at the end.
What they actually struggled with was Denton's opening burst - they left them no wickets to play with in the middle overs against the spinners so they went nowhere.
