State of Origin 2023

    Martin has proven origin form?

Crichton doesn't punch holes in attack but Martin does?

I don't mind this, think Hynes is more naturally a 5/8 anyway. I think he could've worked with Cleary as a traditional 1st receiver/2nd receiver pairing who play both sides of the ruck.

Well Martin was arguably the Blues best player. So yeah that counts for something. I agree he's been bog in the past.

Crichton's played only 6 or 7 games this year and done bugger all in most of them. And in Game 3 last year he missed 6 tackles.

It's a bizarre and really awful swap imo.

Hopgood looks a good prospect. Hard-working, high metres and tackles, and has an offload in his game. Bit green for this year, and a bit too similar to Carrigan but has a lot of potential.

Skippered a bunch of lower grades at Penrith too so assuming he's a bit of a leader.

Yeah Hopgood is made for being an annoyingly awesome Queensland Origin player IMO. Carrigan and Cotter being similar does count against him but I'm sure he'll have a long career that frustrates me no end.

I've always thought Crichton was much better than Martin (still do tbh) but yeah you can't pick Martin and then drop him after he plays well.

Can already here the stories now ' Unwanted by Penrith in favour of Isaah Yeo and now he stands with he shield aloft for his 3rd straight origin series win as captain, while Isaah goes back to the drawing board'

Nanai will be in over Kaufusi. And Moses will be the NSW 7 apparently. Fittler's always been a big fan of Moses so not really surprised.

    Lame.

Moses looks like the entirely wrong player to bring in with an origin series on the line. I'd trust Reynolds more to play his role, would prefer his goal kicking in an away origin to either Moses or latrell too.

Would obviously love to be proven wrong though if he gets the gig

Nanai ahead of Kaufusi is stupid, and I've never wanted Kaufusi in the side. The year he actually deserves it, we don't pick him. Nanai is an absolute fraud, and putrid defender.

I'd say Reynolds is the ideal one to pick, purely due to his age, I don't buy into the whole knowing Suncorp well bullshit, it's not a golf course, it's a 100m footy field. If Hynes or Moses win NSW the series, they simply have to be number 7 next year ahead of Cleary. Reynolds you can leave out due to his age, and if he loses he can be discarded for good.

The 'knows Suncorp' thing is the dumbest reason I've ever heard. I've grilled two of my mates this week for parroting it, you're not picking a leg spinner because you're headed to the subcontinent.

With Api out now, I feel like
    6. Walker
    7. Reynolds
    9. Cook

    just makes the most sense.

I see no reason to pick Moses over Hynes
If you're not picking for an established combination of guys who have played together, surely you would pick the guy who's already in the squad

  16. AVA T Delonge

The biggest point against Walker is his injury, otherwise I suspect this was probably on the cards.

On my end if they feel the need to pick Moses to replicate a Cleary-esque player, I'd chuck Hynes in the 6.

Looks like Martin will be ruled out anyway. Blues droppin like flies.

I dont know how much to make of it but you almost never see Tedesco get run over the way he did by Martin. Something aint right.

  19. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

He could just be getting a bit old, 250 odd top level games and over 30 normally sees a bit of a decline in outside backs.

I weirdly don't have very strong opinions on who should be picked in the halves. I just hope that if Reynolds and Walker are picked they're picked for the right reasons, not 'Reynolds knows Suncorp' or 'muh club combinations'. Walker's injury probably rules him out anyway.

Beyond that I'd like to drop Luai but don't really mind which combination of Reynolds/Moses/Hynes/Walker is selected, which surprises me in itself.
