Good signing for them I reckon, good for Broncos to a degree as well regarding their cap. He would have been on pretty solid money, being signed on the back of winning a GF and playing for QLD.

I'd rather they still had him next season though, as our squad is still very young. I'm sure they'd rather keep him too as it's money they've already committed. But if it means we can keep Walsh and Mam, and as they've just locked up Riki and Piakura, it's probably for the best. They could upgrade both Walsh and Mam for next season, then save money down the road somewhere.

Seems odd to let him go immediately unless they are over the cap or needed to give a couple of off-contract players upgrades this year to make up for not being able to offer as much in the following seasons.

Not sure where Warriors plan to use him either, thought Ford had a pretty decent season. Potentially as a replacement for Curran?

Don't really think it improves the Warriors side much.

He seems like a good guy, but I don't think he's that good. He can come up with the odd pathetic effort in defence and it feels like he's always under an injury cloud. If they've spent big on him at 30 for 3 years I think it's a mistake.

It's likely a culture signing too. Webster was with him at Penny, and with Harris spending a number of games on the sidelines since he was signed, his experience should help them out.

Good decision by Broncos to let him go. His decline over the past 18 months, especially his lateral movement in defence has been quite obvious. Said it a while ago, I think his best position is at 13.

Looks like Luai ---> Tigers. He's getting overs, but overall, it's a good signing for them. Might help them attract/retain quality players.

I think I probably under rate Luai, but geez he strikes me as limited. I Thought the riff deal was very fair.

The way he dealt with the NSW stuff when he was getting a bit of flack, his little blow up with Salmon etc would have me a little nervous if I were a Tigers fan. If they're stuck down the bottom when he starts there I could easily see him losing the plot a bit. Will be interesting to see where Doueihi ends up. Think he could do a good job at 6 for riff.

Penrith will probs use Laurie after Luai is gone. I assume he came pretty cheap, being a Tigers fringe player.

There’s no doubt Luai is a significant over-pay but if you’re the Tigers, given the scarcity of halves around I can understand why they have paid.

I’ve always thought he’s had a high ceiling as a player but then was also impressed with his performances in the World Cup for Samoa when he was the main man for them. Problem is the World Cup is a few levels off NRL.

Will be very interesting to see how he goes outside the Panthers system.

He'll do some good things with the Tigers throw it around and try shit strategy, but obviously they're not gonna win a comp.

There's no evidence to me that he's a great game manager (tbf he hasn't needed to be), his kicking game is pretty average, he's been in the best team on the best run( most of the time with one of the best club centres and best back rowers outside him) for 4 years and is still in the low teens for try assists. One thing that's been missed to is how much he's dropped off in linebreak assists. 2021 he looked like a genius when he had the brain of Matt Burton running off him, but I think that had a lot to do with Burtons lines etc.

Could turn out to be one of the most Wests Tigersy signings of all time. I'm still not totally convinced he's not just the most successful Josh Reynolds/Travis Burns/Mortimer trier type there's ever been.

Worst thing is this makes Penrith way stronger. They are going to replace 800k Luai with a min wage Laurie, and arguably won't lose anything but will be able to retain/strengthen other spots.

This is such a typical dud signing. From Brookes to Luai is hilarious.

Yeah Laurie is a better 6 than Doueihi IMO and will complement Cleary well.

ACL can be career ending for a back so it'll be interesting to see what happens with Doueihi in general. I've always thought he's primarily a centre and should focus on that but he was slow off the mark for a back to begin with. I don't think he's gonna make it as a 6 if someone tries to pick him up as one.

This was definitely mean to say “I’ve never thought he’s had a high ceiling”

The more I think of the Luai signing, the more I think it's a good one for the Tigers. Halves with his success and profile are rare, ones off contract are even rarer. Tigers wouldn't have anyone close to $1.2M on their books; now that Brookes is gone, so it's easier for them to fork out that kind of cash. Unlike teams like Panthers, Broncos, Storm, Cows and maybe even Roosters; who will have a few players around the $900-1M+ in the coming seasons.

$1.2M looks like a lot at face value, and while it is a lot, it will already be less than 10% of the cap by the time he's there. Which is like $850-900K in 2022.

Will he kick goals, kick for territory, organize. Plenty of unknowns not usually associated with a marquee half

Felt the Tigers pack underperformed last year but definitely have the names locked up through 2025 to provide him front foot ball

don't rate him but won't begrudge him getting his bag

  18. Magic AJ Parker

Not sure Tigers pack did underperform to be honest if you look at their underlying numbers around yardage and play the balls in good territory they weren't a side who were short of opportunities. It was their inability to create points not their ability to get the ball to the right end of the field that hurt them.

They ranked 4th in the comp for play the balls in opposition 20 but last for linebreaks and tries created. The inability to score a try does inflate a teams play the balls in the oppositons 20 but even if those numbers levelled out a bit it's still clear getting the ball into good positions wasn't a problem.

I don't think they will ask him to organise the side to be honest but they're going to have to work really hard on finding a good 7/9 combo to support him in that area. I like Sezer and Korisau but they will be 32 and 33 respectfully by the time he arrives next year.

Hosking --> Raiders immediately on a 3yr deal.

TPJ at Broncos training lol, probs just visiting the boys though.

Thanks Magic for those numbers, possibility they could get better then? Definitely remember Klem and IPap not being at their previous seasons form (most likely linked to new playmakers) , but your numbers would suggest others made big leaps ( i was impressed with big stef)
