Yeah, second rowers don't really need rotating per se, so if you're going to pick one on the bench I think they have to offer something different that'd make you want to bring them on. Be it offloads, or ball-playing before the line, or aggressive defence, or even an ability to play other positions to a decent standard should there be an injury somewhere else. Graham offered creativity -- the fact that he could kick or pass before the line gave the Queensland defence a lot more to think about suddenly when he came on in terms of NSW's attacking structure on his edge, so he was theoretically really valuable even though he played like a busted arse. And Sims offers defensive impact -- pressure on ball-players and kickers, line speed, big hits etc -- plus he could play up front if one of the props went down too.

Crichton is a good second rower but even ignoring the fact that he randomly forgot how to tackle in the middle of last season and has only recently stopped having those defensive lapses, he's just a pretty standard good second rower. He runs his lines really well, steps at the line and makes good decisions in defence -- but that's it. That's what the starters offer anyway. He'd probably be in my top 4 or 5 starting second row options for NSW (I'd definitely pick the the two who actually are starting, plus Thompson, ahead of him, but he might be #4), but as a bench player for a position that doesn't really need interchange unlike the middle third guys, he just offers fuck all IMO.

Does anyone else think Mitchell just has a face you'd love to punch.

Yeah. I just don’t believe the sort of opportunist tries he scores, albeit spectacular, will translate to Origin. Inglis is vulnerable on the outside and yeah shut the gate if the Jet gets in open space, but I don’t like picking centres who are as likely to let in 2 tries as they are to score two. I don’t think Mitchell is quite at that level so I’m happy to pick him on the left.

I also think Tedesco at fullback is going to limit both centres.

    They should have went

    1. Trbo
    2. Cotric
    3. Teddy

I can’t believe they’re not starting Turbo at fullback and Jake at lock.

Tedesco certainly suits playing centre but you can’t really throw him in there without significant club experience.

He did well there for Italy.

I did a mean shit in the city last week, doesn't mean I should shit there all the time.

    If it works, it works.

Slater just announced his retirement, and I won't be surprised if GI does it at the end of the series.

    1. Ponga
    3. Gagai/Munster
    6. Munster/Milford
    7. Hunt
    14. Morgan

That is better than anything NSW can come up with.

You're way better off having Gagai in the centres to allow you to have Oates and Holmes on the wings.

Gagai is pus in the centres. I’d sooner play Oates there.

Slater’s retirement doesn’t change anything. Just bring Ponga in next year.

He struggles for involvement (like most modern centres really -- it's the least important position now), but what he actually does there in his involvements is fine. He's definitely going to end up there for Queensland.

Yeah definitely. I'd prefer Milford carve up and have

    Ponga
    Goates
    Chambers
    Munster
    Gagai
    Milford
    Hunt

But most likely Gagai ends up in the centres and Goates/Holmes the wingers, Milford out of rep footy for a while.

His attempt on Mitchell their most recent game where Mitchell just bumped him off was pathetic, as if he's going to handle Inglis

  17. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Nah disagree. I'm a Gagai fan but he's been very poor in defence and pretty fucking shit in attack as well. He's just not suited to centre. Out and out winger imo.

lol stfu about Milford, cunt. He is not Origin standard. There's no fucking way whilst ever DCE, Hunt, Munster and Morgan are fit, we should be picking Milford. He's set up what, 3 tries in 12 games this year? And has a 50% chance of taking the wrong option during crucial stages of matches...

Shouldn't even be in the discussion. Yes he's shown he can play five-eighth to fg standard but he's a much, much better fullback.

  19. Wilson SB Wilson

Yeah it's actually a bit of a shame that Milford's gone to Brisbane and they're turning him into an average 5/8.

If he stayed in Canberra or went to a different club to continue playing fullback, I'd think Ponga wouldn't be such a walk up start for fullback next year.

  20. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

He is an origin standard 6, not a 7, which is what he is playing at Brisbane this year. All he needs is Brisbane to sign a decent 7, and I think you'll start to see the best of him. On raw talent, he's up there with Ponga.
