    1. Gazza
Fergie has always lamented he was the one who got away, after Spurs poached him off us. The wonderful world of hindsight shows Gazza really needed man managing, can't say if Fergie could've done it, but probably had the best chance of doing so

    2. Le Tissier.

I don't think I've seen a more technically gifted Englishman in the Premiership, the goals he could score.... Was my favourite player growing up.

    3. Shearer

Not that we did bad for strikers like, but those mid nineties I think we'd have dominated Europe with him up front.

  2. Eds E Ames

    Michael Laudrup.

    1. Eden Hazard - not for lack of trying obviously, but if it wasn't for Chelsea winning the Champions League he'd be at united this season.

    2. Gareth Bale - should have really gone for him when he was a kid.

    3. Gazza - agree with cpr. Fergie took no shit with Giggs and Sharpy back in the day, reckon he'd have fixed gaz up too

    Ronaldinho
    Gazza
    Batistuta

Apparently we had all but signed Ronaldinho. But then our CE blocked it and buggered off to another club the following year.

Have never verified it though so not sure if true

Yeah, Kenyon messed us about on the Ronaldinho deal, he scuppered it as he felt it wasn't value for money. Many, indeed most, feel he already knew about Chelsea's interest in him and that's why he sabotaged it. The fans certainly weren't happy with him at the time of the deal though, his house/car were targetted a few times.

  7. Uppercut CB Faldo

Joke's on him though, we got Ronaldo instead.

  8. GIMH GIMH Martyn

Jan Aage Fjortoft. Went to Middlesbrough instead and they won the league. Bastards.

  9. PienaarColada DH Mulray

Can't really remember us missing out on anyone that's turned out to be special, unless I'm missing someone very obvious.

Players we've missed out on are the likes of Alan Smith, Emre, Momo Sissoko, Ramsey...

Reckon we'd have got both TBH. Board has always backed Fergie when he says he must have a player (famous one being Fergie forcing Edwards to buy Yorke for £12m, when the latter prefered Hartson for £5m), and the players were crying for Ronaldo once they'd played against him.

That would've been one hell of a combo though....

I don't think Fergie would have had any influence on Gascoigne whatsoever. Far too self-destructive, Walter Smith could only keep him on the straight and narrow for 18 months at best.

I know Arsenal were looking at Ronaldo when he was at Sporting Lisbon, but Man United out bid us. Would've been nice.

Yeah but the damage had been done by then, if Fergie had got him before he went to Spurs maybe it could've been different, especially at that point he was having a major clear out of the drinking culture at United

  14. Uppercut CB Faldo

He tried but there was only so much he could do. According to guys like Keane, Pallister, Bruce etc the post-game night out was pretty much obligatory until just before the turn of the century.

I don't think there's any chance he could have kept Gazza on the straight and narrow. He's the best around at player development but even so, there are plenty of young players he eventually just gave up on and Gazza was worse than almost any of them.

If it weren't for the player price inflation of the 90s I'd say we'd dodged a bullet in missing out on him.

He apparently had agreed a fee with PSG, but when he came back decided he had agreed to much and tried to be clever and bid lower. Then Barca came in for him and agreed a deal with his brother and PSG sold him to them.

Spoiled the Robben move too Kenyon and took him to Chelsea.

Robben would have been a sick deal too.

    Lee Bowyer :ninja:

From memory, the drinking culture was still very much a thing at Utd untul well into Roy Keane's United career.
