    Reckon it's much better for his development as a batsman if he plays the whole season here. He could be a real good allrounder if he has a full season of seconds but if you pick him in firsts now the best you're going to get is a decent bowler who can bat a bit, IMO.

    That's all fairly true. Just have to make sure he stays with us, and next season's spinners of myself, Dorn and Jacobs should be great at home.

    EDIT: It's still a bit hard to justify not picking someone who's averaging 70+ with the bat and <20 with the ball.

    I don't really believe someone should literally be able to force their way in, though. You need to have non-performance in first grade before second grade starts to matter, and you need to give blokes a fair run too. Picking Dover for one game then dropping him because someone had a good ALC game, then dropping that player because Dover has a good ALC game the following round etc etc doesn't achieve anything.

    There's no-one in first grade that justifies being punted at the moment. Everyone there has either done well or has just got in the team.
