I was reminded of the downfall in the state of domestic cricket in Australia just before. They had a od game from 94 between Australia and Australia A on at lunch in the India England game.

    Australia A's side was:
    1. Hayden
    2. Lehmann
    3. Martyn
    4. Langer
    5. Ponting
    6. Moody
    7. Emery
    8. Robertson
    9. Reiffell
    10. Hughes
    11. Rowell

They made the final ahead of England too. haha.

    Yeah.

I've wanted to have a go at Rob's sim and create a post 1990 Australian CPL type thing but as Rob said in this thread people just pick a stats team and it makes it quite homosexual.

Yeah, it's hard to just pick a stats team in actual CPL as such because you don't really know what each competition is worth etc and the stats it comes up with are a lot more realistic as such, but if you were picking players all from the same comp it doesn't work as well as the games all mean the same and you can just pick on averages.

Haha FMD that top 5 is immense. One of the Australia's greatest ever bats, another great, 2 very good players, and 1 who would've been gun had he had a chance.

  6. Ged GEC King

Yeah. Greg Blewett and Michael Beven also played for Australia A that year.

  7. Cribbage RG Cribb

The thing is, they didn't exactly know that at the time. For all we know Warner, Hughes, Maddinson and Mitchell Marsh could become greats of the game (they all played in Australia A's last game). 'A' teams will look a lot better when you look back at them than they do at the time.

Yeah. Definitely. Ponting was 19 at the time averaging under 20 in Mercantile Mutual games.

  9. morgieb MC Burridge

Aye true, but they actually carved up the Shield, whereas atm only Hughes has really done that out of that lot.

    Had they though?

I mean, we know they eventually did. Had they at the time?

Doubt it when you look at the bowling attacks back then.

Joe Angel and Carl Rackeman were tearing shit up on bouncy wickets.

Yes, apart from Langer. Lehmann was sorta inconsistent too.

    Hayden's averages 1991-1994: 54, 52, 126, 48.
    Ponting's averages 1992-1994: 46, 48, 64.
    Martyn's averages 1990-1994: 29, 51, 61, 50, 29.
    Langer's averages 1991-1994: 44, 40, 70, 44.
    Lehmann's averages 1989-1994: 57, 37, 56, 37, 57, 58.

Hughes is the only one out of those 5 that really matches them.

Fair enough. Would have looked a pretty fucking good side at the time too, then.

    this draft is failing

  15. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah looks like this draft is dead, which is a shame because it's one draft I was actually really interested in.

The NZ draft is the only one that's actually been completed. We're just so much better than you all (face)

Should just start it back up with whoever's pick it is given 12 hrs or something.

  18. morgieb MC Burridge

It was Theo, then Benny IIRC.

  19. Julian BJ Taylor

Fuck Theo then. Just give Benny 12 hrs.

  20. Shagger PW Adams

someone to change the title to Benny's Pick or something so he knows
