IMO.... Rd 1: Andrew Flintoff (but was more of a Rd 4 pick) - retired and was never that special on stats alone. Rd 2: Lonwabo Tsotobe - should've waited. Not a shocking pick but there was probably better. Rd 3: Glenn McGrath - hasn't played for 4 years. It's pretty simple. Take retentions out of the picture and it's probably Warne, for the same reason. Rd 4: Ashley Noffke - was never that great and is way past it. Without retentions it's Jayasuriya - was never that good and hasn't played much in recent years. Rd 5: Jadiev Undakat/Shaun Pollock - one's done nothing, the other hasn't played for 3 years Rd 6: Thranga Paranvanita - wasn't really that bad of a round....still think there was better. Rd 7: Sam Wells - only decent looking at him and has gone nowhere near NZ selection. Me thinks Phelgm picked him to spite Athlai. Rd 8: Most picks here were pretty good...hard to know. Rd 9: That Sumanth **** that Nino picked. - doesn't even do that well in Indian cricket, which has a lot of teams. Rd 10: See round 8...if pushed, Stephen Fleming - hasn't played for 3 years. Probably not shocking for Rd 10 but there weren't really many bad picks here. Without retentions it's probably Kumble, for similar reasons. Rd 11: Alistar Grey - mediocre at FC cricket, only looks good because 2nd division stats prop him up. Rd 12: Moises Hendriques - hasn't played much FC cricket and wasn't that great doing so. Rd 13: Malinda Puspakumara - has excellent stats but plays in an awful comp. Rd 14: Martin Guptill - shocking stats from memory, even for a Rd 14 pick. Rd 15: Ruan Pietersen - the **** hasn't even played real FC cricket Rd 16: Ryan Duffield - has he even done anything? Rd 17: Todd Astle - seems pretty mediocre on paper, not a bad round though. Rd 18: Simon Keen - hasn't played FC cricket yet.
Was gonna start a best and worst at work Didnt occur to me that if someone else made it theyd be retarded enough to think about involving any of my first 3 picks tbh
Why Flintoff is easily the worst pick of Round 1? Theron has to be up there in round 8 tbh, I really regret picking him so early.
Yeah tbf you did have a late start. Still, on paper it's probably the worst....not taking you and Shri into account, it becomes a lot more interesting.
He was picked in round 4, the only reason he was placed at 1 and not 4 was so that I could drop him next CPL and get a round 1 pick, instead of placing where he should go (round 4) only to drop him and get a 4 I thought the worst pick for where it was in the round was Vettori ftr
Can we change this thread to a best and worst? Also like to suggest if we do that we ignore retentions as its best "picks" not best people I picked up last year when half the people wernt involved
He averages 27 in proper FC cricket. Not saying he is a bad pick but I would have him in the lower rated ones for that round tbh. I do not regret picking him on the whole, just how early I picked him. Harris is probably 2nd worst in his round IMO.
Yeah retentions should be ignored for best pick, still taking it into account for worst pick as it shows bad logic. Best picks.... Rd 1: Dale Steyn Rd 2: Shakib, probably. Rd 3: No real standout here, hard to say. Rd 4: Ramaresh Sarwan Rd 5: Jerome Taylor Rd 6: JP Duminy Rd 7: Kane Williamson Rd 8: No-one stands out as an awesome pick here I feel. Rd 9: Mathew Sinclair Rd 10: Steve Harmison Rd 11: Salman Butt Rd 12: Daryl Tuffey
Best 1: Steyn 2: Amla 3: Hughes (v close) 4: All sorts of tempted to say Rashid but thats prolly just dire 5: Davies 6: Carberry/Duminy 7: White 8: Jaffer 9: Changing to BREZZERS 10: Want to say Key...so I will 11: Chapple 12: Marcuss' chucker if done by chucking stats Main problems with my list - Far too many of my players, far too many of Farnys add on top that im an idiot and thats pretty much a dire list
I'm ignoring retentions Best: 1. Steyn - Can't argue with it 2. Cook and Trott stand out after a pretty gun Ashes for each. 3. Khawaja 4. Tremlett 5. Rubbish round IMO will probably go with V Kohli as a good future pick 6. Probably Mathews 7. Williamson 8. Barath and arguably Nikita Miller who had amazing recent form 9. Bresnan 10. T Ahmed, J Foster or I Blackwell but mediocre round 11. Manzoor 12. Wright Worst: 1. Flintoff - too soon and never stood out statistically anyway 2. Tsotsobe or me, both a little too soon 3. Sharma 4. Jayasuriya 5. Mishra - too soon considering he isn't that huge a performer yet not much separating worst from best in this round though, hardly a horrendous pick 6. Tait - injuries + he doesn't play much 7. Panesar - still probably a dozen better spinners out there 8. Quality round, Gibbs gets the nod for being an old bastard on the decline 9. Genuinely uncertain, everyone is pretty close 10. Kumble for being gone, closely followed by Harmison 11. The other Murali 12. Paul Harris for being such a rubbish bastard of a player. Tuffey also has had a tough few years.
Worst again just doing picks even though there were some dire retentions 1: Vettori 2: Al Hasan/Tsotobe 3: Warne 4: Prolly Onions or Piggeh Smith 5: Unadkat 6: Tait 7: Wells 8: Not a bad round so il just go with mine 9: Sumanth/ Chandimal 10: No idea 11: No idea 12: Wagh/Morgan
Just the fact that Steyn was on the cards Also, should read about why Flintoff went in round 1 IMO Was never intended to be a round 1 pick...
