CricSim Herald

A new force emerges….again.

Cyclones. Crusaders. Vipers. Pumas. Ravens. Lions. Vipers (again). Stingrays. And now the Gamblers join the CricSim team, following the folding of the Lions.

This isn’t the first time that club owner Brett Gemmell wanted a CricSim club. As early as Season 3, Brett Gemmell, with the help of Bob Bosric, wanted to add a team with players that they recruited, from real life and other forums, known as the Eagles. However, Stormer (Bob Bosric) pulled out, and the Eagles failed to get off the ground. In Season 5 & 6, Boobidy (Brett Gemmell) wanted to add the Carbonators to the competition, but again his side got ignored.

In the proposed Horrigan Cup format, the Carbonators easily had the strongest side out of all the sides which had a chance of getting admitted to the Bannerman Shield some day. However, Rob decided to do with all the current BS sides, and his dreams were shattered.

As it was seen as raping the Cyclones, Boobidy didn’t apply for his team in Season 8. However, for Season 9, it was widely known that Boobidy wanted to make the Cyclones an uber team, but this was effectively seen as making the Cyclones lose the identity. With Ben Read and many other players jumping ship, the Lions were forced to fold, and Boobidy, after several seasons of trying, finally got his own team.

The side was controversial, as expected. Rob hated the side. Many people thought that the name was shit. Boobidy was forced to admit that Ben Kennedy > Tonie Carroll. Even Boobidy’s best friend, Wilson, said that he didn’t want to play for them. Fortunately, the name was changed to the Gamblers, which brought some respect back. The side could feature as many as 11 representative players.

Where will the Lions end up?

A few weeks ago, the CricSim board announced that the Lions will no longer feature in BS from the end of this season. CricSim Herald has done some digging, and this is what we’ve come out with.

What will the NSW Rossleigh Trophy side look like?

A keen interest on most people’s lips is; what will the Rossleigh Trophy sides look like? It is widely known that BS success doesn’t guarantee HC success, and vice versa, so it’s little surprise that the squads might look a little different.

For NSW, Dempsey, Spiers, Flack, Green & Hayes haven’t reached their usual heights, and may face uphill battles to keep their places. On the other hand of the scale, Read, Jones, Cribb, Boland, Herd, Thornton, Burridge, Crowley & Wilkinson are making their presence felt in the Horrigan Cup. Lewis & Gonzalez are certainties to keep their places, while Tyson, Bullpitt & Wilson should all make it. Parker’s 50/50 – he’s performed adequately, but will it be enough to make the NSW side?

The squad might end up looking something like this:

Round 7
A fighting 113 not out by BA Storer helped drag the Vipers first innings total passed 300. But despite a five wicket haul from CJ Devonshire, the Crusaders were able to take first innings points. But with most of their top order contributing to a solid second innings total along with DA Eggman skittling the ‘Saders top order, the Vipers cruised to an easy victory.

Centuries to JP Thornton and DA Alessi laid the platform for a solid first innings total for the Sticky Wickets but despite only two batsman passing 50, the Cyclones finished their innings only trailing by 53. The match seemed to tip in the Cyclones favour after good bowling from MJ Johns and SB Wilson restricted the Stickies to just 191 but once again only two Cyclones players passed 50 as they collapsed to a 48 run defeat.

The Ravens were handed one of the heaviest defeats in the clubs history, going down by an innings and 39 runs at the hands of the Stingrays. C Man took five wickets to leave the premiers six runs short of 200 before the ‘Rays, lead by A Vago, amased 528. Only M Perry could pass fifty in the Ravens second innings leaving them 39 runs off forcing the Stingrays to bat again.

With their top three contributing more than 250 runs, the Pumas got off to a flyer but their innings was reigned in at 372 thanks to a six wicket haul by BC Jacobs. JE McGrath fell just three runs short of a ton as the Lions hit back with 313 but it simply awsn’t enough as DR Armstrong cracked a ton to leave the Lions chasing 356 – a target the fell 188 runs short of.

Round 8

12 players passed fifty as the Sticky Wickets and Crusaders fought out a draw. Batting first, the ‘Saders ammased 560 with MSM Monkeywrench and MR Hayes both scoring tons. The Sticky Wickets only just avoided the follow on and were left chasing 426 after the Crusaders second innings. The Stickes fought hard and were on their way to that target, scoring 316 for the loss of just 4 but running out of time as the light faded on day five.

CJ Devonshire’s match was one of contradiction when the Vipers took on the Stingrays. The bowler registered a marvellous un-beaten century then went out to take three wickets to help his side easily cruise to first innings points. But his fortune turned harder than a Shane Warne leg spinner as Devonshire was dismissed in the second innings for a first ball duck before failing to take a wicket with the ball. But his first innings performance was enough to see his side take the match by 113 runs.

ND Short provided the only highlight for the Lions in their clash with the Cyclones. His second innings 146 was the only sign of any hunger as the Lions got rolled by ten wickets. A solid team effort gave the ‘Clones a big first innings lead and their openers required just 27 balls to mop up the 26 runs needed for victory.

Brilliant centuries to DR Armstrong and SA Flack handed the Pumas a dramatic victory over the Ravens at the Unkindness. DW Lewis shone for the Ravens , scoring centuries in both innings to give his team a handy lead. But Armstrong and Flack blew the Ravens bowlers away to take the match by seven wickets.

Round 4 of the ALC was highlighted by two players bowling seven wicket innings. Both KF Tait and AJ Izett achieved this feat with Izett the most impressive, finishing with 12 wickets for the match.

Round 5

Some heavy defeats in the fifth round with the Kings v Cobras match the closest fought. Despite a convincing first innings lead, the Kings couldn’t capitalize, falling apart in the second innings as the Cobras snuck home by four wickets.

Round 6

BC Jacobs will long remember round 6 of the ALC with Cubs star showing great form to help his side to victory. Jacobs spearheaded his side’s bowling, finishing the match with bowling figures of 9 for 129 while his second innings century, which included 16 fours, will be remembered by Cubs fans for years to come.

Round 7

Any bowler who takes 11 wickets in a match has reason to be over the moon. Equally, any batsman pushing past 60 runs in a game would also be quite pleased. Both those milestones came for S Wells but it wasn’t enough to take his side to victory. His match figures of 11 for 123 along with his second innings 65 would normally be enough to guarantee a side the win but sadly for Wells, his Cubs were defeated by 146 runs at the hands of Jaguarundi.

Round 8

We love big knocks here at the CricSim Herald and round 8 of the ALC certainly didn’t disappoint with 20 fifties along with seven hundreds, highlighted by A Johnson’s 257 for the Cobras. But if bowling is more your thing, you need look no further than a brilliant display by BIG Tiger who took 8 for 38 for Jaguarundi.

This round proved to be unlucky for many batsmen, with a handful getting out in the nervous 90. Among them were representative stars BJT Manera and TR Man with a 99 and a 92 respectively. BL Hornby and HG Emm were the stand out batsman and bowler of the round.

Round 7

Round 7 was a relatively low scoring round which saw one of the newer team in the Stingrays suffer a major collapse and concede defeat in the lowest ever inning in Horrigan Cup history. Wicket keeper, D Bonald, stood out with an unbeaten century, and all rounder, RG Cribb chipped in with a handy 4 wicket haul.

Round 6

Batting second proved to be a winning position in three of the four matches in round six, with the Kings, Brumbies and Crocodiles all chasing down 200 plus scores. This trend was no doubt disappointing for Cobras opener MW Scoble whose 134 was not an innings deserving of a loss, especially in a dramatic, last ball fashion..

Round 7

In the shadows of the finals series, the Horrigan Plate witnessed one of the great innings with Cobras star C McGregor smashing 129 off 111, remaining not out and seeing his side home with nearly four overs to spare. Standing alongside him with an equally impressive knock was L Popovic who clubbed his 102 not out off a remarkable 78 balls.

Nah they played in Season 1. Burridge listed teams that have been added since then.

Stickies are actually the only survivors from Season 1.

Yeah I've edited that out. I wouldn't have cared if he actually did it properly and listed players "who might join" or "who have been linked with the club" but he just said "The side has 11 representative players. Here is the squad" which made it completely wrong.
