    Newport

    • Top seed James McDougal made short work of doubles partner Ginger Furball in his quarter final matchup, as he advanced to the semi finals for the third tournament running. After his dominant first round win, McDougal met sterner opposition in the form of Furball, who was seeing the ball well and coming to the net confidently. His approach shots, however, gained a predictable pattern, and allowed McDougal to secure the only break of the first set as a well-placed lob wrongfooted Furball, and allowed McDougal to take the set 6-4. The second set continued in much the same way, as Furball created few opportunities when returning, while looking relatively consistent on serve. That stopped in what would be the penultimate game of the match, as McDougal finally converted one of four break points in a long game to take a 5-3 lead, and go on to serve out a 6-4, 6-3 win.

    • His opponent in the first semi-final will be Ritwik Chowdhuri, following his surprising come-from-behind win over in-form Victorian Alistair Son. Son, who made the Den Bosch final, was heavily fancied against the Asian player, and looked confident in a one-sided first set, which he took 6-2. Chowdhuri, however, lifted his game significantly in the second set, and, serving second, was forced to play a far more attacking game as he looked for that elusive break of serve. It came in the second-to-last game of the set, as Son sprayed a forehand wide to hand Chowdhuri what would be the decisive service break. From there, Chowdhuri went from strength-to-strength, as Son became increasingly frustrated. The competitiveness of the second set went out of the match, as Chowdhuri advanced 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.

    • In doubles action, Morgan Burridge/Ether Starris overcame a horror second set to beat Jake Howe/Eddie Morris 7-5, 1-6, [10-6] (coming back from 4-6 down in the match tiebreaker), while Leumas Himann/Chad Ochocinco were also victorious in a 6-7(1), 7-6(3), [10-8] nailbiter against Marquis Deane/Andrew James.
