So we can talk about the finale....

What are everyone's thoughts? 40 minutes in I was thinking ok so she chose him there is still 25 minutes to go wtf could possibly happen to make her go back to the CIA. Not going to lie I didn't see that coming. I guess it kind of brings it all the way back to the start, did he or didn't he?

My guess is that he did.

Fucking awesome finale. Felt a bit like the titanic at parts which was the perfect lead in. Loved the chekhov's gun and juxtaposition present in it - heaps of recurring shit that just made it such a well constructed episode. The last few had been pretty poor and steering away from what made homeland so good. I do think that perhaps it might have been better for Brody to die and them to move on a bit but oh well - the idea of Carrie being essentially working for the CIA to find Brody while secretly trying to clear his name is a twist too enticing to pass up.

I reckon he didn't for the following reasons
    - his comment before the explosion - 'someone moved my car' - if he's guilty, why bring it up?
    - there's a lot more depth in terms of episode structure & plots if he didn't - finding out who did etc. while working and finding reasons to clear his name.

We've got to remember that Nazir seemed to have planned this all along - Walden's death, potentially even his own to get this to happen. Roya etc. were pawns - he almost expected Brody's betrayal. Unless during that day where Brody was abducted this was all planned and just not mentioned - Brody seemed unaware. Remember Nazir had that fella on the computers fucking with Walden's pacemaker; he still had allies.

Although the twist with Quinn siding against Estes was pretty unrealistic - I liked it nonetheless.

    What I love is

    - next season it seems there'll be more saul, which is gun. He's such a well constructed character
    - no more estes. had so much opportunity to develop his character but they seemed to cbf. was a waste of time
    - no more morena baccarin (hopefully). fucking terrible character/actor.
    - Brody probably in a lesser role. He was frustrating me
    - F. Murray Abraham. Gun actor - they wouldn't bring him in for two episodes, surely.
    - Development of Quinn's character in the next series surely will happen.

Only bad thing is less Morgan Saylor. I liked her :( #cribb

It's an awesome finale that restores my faith in the series - and sets up a good next season. Hopefully they deliver.

I reckon there's a lot more to Quinn than meets the eye.

Obviously so Carrie would believe him.

The more I think about it the biggest reason why it wouldn't be Brodie is because then wtf was the point of the whole kidnapping Carie thing.

It was so cheesy at the start and everything was going well, so I worked out something would happen. Didn't expect it to be that big.

Hopefully Saul and Quinn become the main focus. Not really sure what they'll do with Brody unless he tries to contact his family.

Wasn't a fan of Quinn until this episode, love his work now.

Loved it. It spend the first 40 minutes resolving everything, which in truth left me a little disastisfied as the whole series focus on Carrie/Broady's relationship was just so meh for me.
The last few episodes had just been inplausible and full of BS. The Broady family were boring and the whole issue of the man-hunt for Nazir was nowhere near as thrilling as Season 1.

Season 1 was groundbreaking due to the intense sense of paranoia and confusion in each episode and the finale re-established this.
    Who moved the car?
    - Was it Broady? Was it the mole who's been in the CIA?
Who released the Broady tape - remember it going missing from the little crack in the rock?
    - Was it actually the terrorists?
    Could Saul be complicit?
    - The cuts to him on the boat in the build up to the explosion (too obvious?)and the whole thing with Aileen Morgan? As unintentional as we were lead to believe?
Why did Saul's wife care about Carrie being alive or dead?
    - My friend thinks she's invovled... I lolled.

There will definitely be a lot more of Saul vs Dar Adal for sure next series.
It'll be interesting to see how this pans out, obviously while Broady is presumed dead he's got a massive headstart on fidning a hiding place before they come looking for him.

RE: Saul's wife - it's established earlier in the season (or was it S1?) when Carrie knocks and barges in the night she returns from India - they're very casual and friendly; she's clearly a friend of the family.

I think tonight showed Saul was a real good guy. The choice was the name of the episode - and despite the whole brody/carrie focus, the core of the episode revolved around Saul. It was his choice - and every time in the episode, he chose yes.

His absolute emotion when he heard about it all, the desperation for his wife's return to help him deal with it and the denial/raw emotion he had (calling carrie's phone knowing she was dead + not looking when he heard her voice), plus the smile on his face (loved it, btw) when he saw her just pointed towards him being so good.

I'm aware it could be intentional to throw the viewer but it seemed too real. I almost reckon this episode was meant to confirm Saul as entirely good.

I hope Saul is clean but it's pretty obvious there's meant to be some doubt in our minds.

Where was Galvez for the whole episode?

  10. MatthewJay TA Miokovic

I want to know whether Saul/Dana/Carrie will admit that Brody's tape was from the other attack.

  11. GYR DW Lewis

When Carries called out his name the reason he didn't turn around was to finish that prayer he was saying. It's a prayer for the mourners of the dead and it would be disrespectful not to finish it. He started rushing through it when he hear her call out though lol.

  12. MatthewJay TA Miokovic

Was that the same prayer they said for Nazir?

  13. Mike ML Martyn

The "I kill bad guys" scene with David was pretty bad-ass.

  14. GYR DW Lewis

Lol really? No nazir is a Muslim. Saul is clearly a Jew.

  15. MatthewJay TA Miokovic

    Fucking awesome.

I think you had a distinct advantage in noticing that.

  16. Magic AJ Parker

Dont' know if it really needed to the first 20 minutes of lovey dovey shit, some of the shit was just cringe-worthy... there's absolutely no chemistry.

Apart from that though it was pretty gun, from the worst ever finale to one of the best. Honestly thought there was no way they could keep Broady alive and still have a plausible/interesting storyline but they did.

Will be interesting to see how prominent Broady is next season, I reckon once it's revealed he's still alive a lot of shit will continue to happen and be blamed on him with a massive witch hunt with Saul trying to balance public/political pressure to kill him and Carrie trying to convince him that Broady is innocent.

  17. Wilson SB Wilson

I fast forward through the chummy shit. It's way to prevelant modern television and it fucking shits me. They have a story to tell, don't spend 15 minutes on relationship talk.

Nasir planning to get himself killed is bullocks. Otherwise the cunt wouldn't have hid.

  18. Wilson SB Wilson

What the fuck is this Broady shit?

  19. GYR DW Lewis

Obviously he didn't plan to get himself killed.

  20. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah, I think he was very prepared to die, but he obviously didn't need to to put that plan in action; he just needed Waldon to.
