Port fans seem pretty butt hurt by the free kick count on Saturday afternoon, personally can't comment on the standard of the umpiring as I didn't see the game myself. However on facebook been a fair bit of anger about an umpire (think it is Shane McInerney) giving a little footy tap to Daniel Wells after he kicks a goal. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=592489314102291 Personally don't really think much of it but interested to see what other people think.
I don't know if it's common practice in the AFL but my first assumption was that he was just giving him a tip... e.g make sure you're careful when you go in with your elbows or whatever the fuck a ref would say in AFL. Either that or he's the dumbest cunt in the world to congratulate him right after he kicked a goal and multiple cameras are probably all zoomed in on him.
Guessing the umpiring was shit like last week when the Hawks played against them. Similar free kick count as well, 30-15 in their favour.
Apparently when Wells was lining up the ump said "15 gone Lindsay", tap was to apologise for the wrong name.
Also, lob-sides free kick count doesn't always mean there was bad umpiring. Maybe Port just kept giving away frees. I only watched the first half though.
Next it will be the umpires shook the hand of the Port captain for .8 of a second less at the start of the game. Proof the umpires favoured the other team.
