The way retentions work will change slightly for Season 3. Now, if you retain a player, the round you miss a pick in during the draft will not be the literal round you took that player in, but the new adjusted round based on the pick number and the total number of teams. This means that if you end up with two players who are deemed Round 1 picks, you simply can't retain them both. However, if you have two (or three, or more) players from another round, you can merely forgo the previous round's pick to retain them both. For example, if you choose to retain two Round 2 picks, you miss your Round 1 pick in the Season 3 draft (although this means you can't actually retain any Round 1 picks). I am thinking 6 or 8. Maybe even 10. Won't be less than 6 though. Even if we have new teams, the new retention system ensures they're only disadvantaged by players improving, and not by too many players being taken, as such. Should have used this for this season but I hadn't come up with it yet.
It's funny how a couple of players were picked in Round 1 this season but would actually be Round 2 players if we kept the same number of teams because of Season 1 "Round 2" retentions between picks 17 and 22 pushing them down now.
