Even with the blind auditions, You could tell they were still selectivly screening people for marketability. For example if a rock bloke came on, singing something like Evie, Nobody would buzz him because someone like that has the likelyhood of close to zero success. Pretty much every young girl that sounds remotely close to Delta and could get in range of a high note got through.
There was some guy that had a really good alternative voice and sung something from split enz or something, Was really good but nobody wanted him and then trotted on some dumb bitch who was awful, hit a high note and something like 3 people wanted her.
