I'd hate to live in poverty like you do.

Agreed. I've seen a few of them and they really don't float my boat in the slightest. And it's not as if I don't like decent action films.

Shri meant that superhero films are full of sub genres that can provide social commentary, ie Captain America 2 was a take on political thriller riffing on NSA fears.

Ant Man is likely to be an out and out comedy. Guardians was a sci fi adventure. The superhero film is using other genre archetypes to maintain their sticking power and to keep the box office dollars rolling in.

I've seen the trailer for Ant Man. It is not a comedy.

It will definitely be the most comic MCU movie thus far. I've also watched the trailers for it, and casting a comedy lead and using a comedy director is a fairly solid sign you may be making a movie that will take itself less seriously than The Winter Soldier.

I mean the trailer showing a Thomas the tank Engine epic train wreck did call upon some early Scorsese, but I think there may be a laugh or two tucked in there as well.

I do fear the market is going to become super saturated over the next 5 years, especially now that DC have joined the party in full force. I still enjoy them though, there's no better genre for kicking back and enjoy some cheap laughs and decent action sequences. And as Shri and Athers said each one has its own sub-genre providing variation

    Yeah, exactly.

Yep. I liked the dark knight and a few x-men movies but that's about it. The last one I watched was Thor which I legitimately fell asleep while watching.

Thor is such a strange one. The Asgard scenes are so well done, but the earth scenes look like they completely ran out of budget or something.

I didn't like either Thor movies or Cap 1 particularly. All 3 Iron Man, both Avengers and Cap 2 were great though.

I think the x-men films are a step down from the above... I find it weird that you prefer them

Pretty hard to enjoy a night at the movies if you're feeling sleepy tbh lol

    I'd go something like

    -The Dark Knight
    Avengers 1
    Captain America 2
    -Batman Begins
    Iron Man
    Avengers 2
    Thor 2
    Thor
    Iron Man 3
    -Days of Future Past
    -The Dark Knight Rises
    Captain America 1
    -Man of Steel
    -Amazing Spiderman 2
    Iron Man 2
    -Amazing Spiderman
    -First Class
    Incredible Hulk

Amazing Spiderman(both parts) are a mess. They didn't have any direction at all compared to some other titles in that list. Saw it once on the big screen and decided they weren't even worth pirating. Its a fucking shame too, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were good in the movies but they still felt empty.

I loved the AS films. A controversial opinion I realise but I thought they were really well done. Alot different from the MCU too which has been refreshing

Captain America 1 down is what I consider pretty average, movies that have great moments but aren't all that good overall.

I actually think the X-Men movies are a cut above just about any of the others.

I can't believe so many adult males get off on super hero films honestly.

I also think you need to separate the two super hero genres.

One is set without supernatural themes and events (Batman and Ironman from memory).

The other is fairy land make believe children based fantasy where the heroes are magic.

Did you seriously put Thor 2 above Thor? I don't like superhero movies but even I liked Thor.. Thor 2 on the other hand was absolute garbage.

Only a few of them come out a year. Hardly flooding the market
It's good action. Unfortunately action and comedy movies have been shit for the last 10 years.
