    Qualifiers - Top Half

Dubai finally got underway today, but qualifying didn't hold many good games today as mose matches were vaguely uninteresting to say the least. The best one was Gareth Weaver's narrow defeat of Tom DeLonge. DeLonge, playing in his first singles tournament put up a decent fight against the world number eleven, but really struggled with Weaver's serve. Many of DeLonge's attempted returns just ended up in the net, although apart from that the Australian played some decent tennis. The match carried on past the standard 6 set victory margin, testament to how well the pair were matched. Weaver was uncharacteristically error-prone, and really much of the match was won from his serve. If he'd had an off day with that too, then surely DeLonge could have taken this one. The only other match to go all the way to three sets was between Jono Chewie and Samuel Vimes. It was certainly less of a contest, seemingly Vimes was holding on by the skin of his teeth. He was lucky to not go down in straight sets actually, as he somehow overcame a match point twice to take the second set in a tiebreak. Although both players are not known for their great serving, it was Vimes who struggled the most, recording 12 double faults and serving below 50%. Elsewhere, Samuel Yates, Chris Warrington and Heath Davis all came through as expected, and Charlie Downes could not continue last week's form on as he was beaten by Zohaib Ikram.
