Woeful from cows though, they look in all sorts

71% possession to Panthers at half time.

Yep they were pathetic and tbph have been all season thus far. Their two wins weren't much to gloat about either.

That was the worst refereeing job I've ever seen from Atkins.

Broncos didn't deserve to win that though, low effort.

    That's absolutely a penalty.
Offside player, leads with the knee and makes contact with the head.
    100% a penalty.

Sure it was accidental, but so are most high shots.

  7. Magic AJ Parker

What do you think it is? They look very flat, the bench has been ineffective at changing that too.

Been missing a couple of key players, Drinkwater back will help but not really the problem from what I’ve seen.

I agree, Taupau is running at Rapana with quite a fair amount of speed and then has no ability to change his path or react to a change in level from Rapana. This makes it careless IMO.

    Penalty sufficient.

So running on a kick-chase is careless? I don't see how you can call a player careless on a kick-chase when someone deliberately drops at his knees. If he hits him with a shoulder or arm then yes, it's careless. Not a knee when running though. It's not like he's dropping his knees into him. You don't have that kind of control over your legs when you're running like that. Tonie Carroll should have copped something for kneeing that ref if so.

He wasn't just running past though.
He drops his height, he changed his line and his arm come out.
    It is 'a tackle attempt',
not... a good one, sure, but it is.

Making a tackle, where the first point of contact is your knee into someones head, is illegal.

It's not Vunivalu leaping into someone's face.
Tapau doesn't change any line. Raps drops into his knee, which is why it's the first point of contact.

Obviously is terrible that Rapana got fucked up, but how could it have been avoided? If someone is kick chasing, and the kick diffuser makes a decision to drop at someone's legs like that?

The same can be said for half the high shots that get penalised/suspended though.

Which I don't necessarily agree with, but that's the game.

It’s careless because running down on a player catching a bomb you have to assume they are either going to jump for the ball, stand tall and catch the ball or like a lot of players do on these bombs when they are swirling around drop down with the ball to adjust for late movement. Tapau didn’t factor any of that in, just that he was going to hit him as hard as he could as soon as Rapana caught the ball. Not factoring in changes in circumstance is the definition of careless.

Saying he had no control over that situation simply isn’t true, every week players adjust their runs and timing when going in to tackle a player who’s dropping with the ball from a swirling bomb.

    Tartmaster likes this.

He is timing his run to smash him as he catches it. We see this in just about every match, without the defender factoring in what the ball is doing in the air. By your definition that's careless. Are we going to stop that now? The outcome of those tackles depend onwhat the catching players does. I should alao mention that MRC didnt charge him either, careless illegal actions tend to be charged with something. What rule has he broken to warrant a penalty?

Sure, we see that every week,
and when the catcher drops and the tackler clips his head, it gets penalised.

I don't think he should be suspended either, glad he's not, but a penalty is completely warranted.

I don't really get why people are whinging about this so much tbh
There's penalties every game that make no sense that we just forget about,
And I get that this one was a game defining moment,
But Capewell was 100% offside, Taupau was borderline too,
So there was always going to be a penalty, the try would never stand.

So nothing changed in the game,
    Marty isn't missing time,
    Literally nothing has changed.

The biggest thing to come from this is Broncos fans showing what massive cunts they are for booing Rapana.

I've got a real soft spot for the Tiges, but them coming out and getting trounced and/or a proper riot from Tigers fans at the ground would really add to the entertainment of the season.

    Manly the great pretenders

Broncos had no right to win that game anyway.

I think the penalty was dumb as I don't believe any rule was broken. And I'm pissed in general about the eagerness of officials to penalise/sin bin players this year. How do they want the game to look?

As for the boos. I don't think they were directly booing Raps, even he said that he thinks they were booing the penalty.

Being careless in itself isn't illegal, for example swinging an arm out at a player who has just wrong footed you is careless but it's only a penalty offence if you collect the player high. We all accept this to be reactionary and accidental but it is still a penalty.

Careless plays will always exist in a game like Rugby League, defensive players must accept the element of risk that exists and if they get goes wrong then they have to own it.

Specifically he has broken rule 2 under player misconduct.
