Broncos beating themselves at the moment. They have far more class, just so many errors. Surely they'll sort it out in the 2nd dig.

    Crazy round.

Luai potentially out for the season with shoulder injury.
Jahrome Hughes waiting on scans for knee injury but looks at a minimum a couple of weeks out.
Luke Metcalf likely gone for 4-6 weeks with hamstring injury.
    Carrrigan out for 2-3 weeks.
Reece Walsh potentially injured himself celebrating a try in the dying minutes of the game.
Ponga with a potential AC joint injury in his right shoulder.
Jamal Fogarty out for the season.
JWH cops a 6-8 week suspension.

    Carnage across the board.

And now knocked out by the Roosters.

What was looking like a very dire season all of a sudden just became a very enjoyable one :)

Thank you Cribb for getting the site back up and running for tonight.

With the top 8 now decided, the Panthers have only lost one game all season to a top 8 side and that was the Broncos all the way back in Round 1 during their slow start to the season.

Hard to see them not doing the 3-peat.

Panthers are certainly the best side, but I don't think the gap is as wide as last season. They haven't been great over the past 4-6 weeks with their lowest point being last week losing to an undermanned Parra and losing Luai. They racked up a score this week, but the Cows were woeful.

I think Broncos are closer than any side were last year, and there's the Storms, who'll be bouyed by thier reggies win last week and the return of Paps. Then we have the Knights, who are playing thier best footy at the moment and have pushed Panthers to the limit each time they've played. They're the 3 sides I think could stop the 3-peat.

As for Warriors, I think that whille effective; thier structures are very predictable. And I can't see them being successful enough at cracking the Panthers, and their defence isn't good enough to keep the Penny from outscoring them.

Broncos biggest hurdle will probably be the Storms in week 1. While on paper most would tip the Broncos, they have an absolute shithouse record v Melbourne. And that would have to playing in the back of their heads.

I can totally see Melbourne winning week 1, forcing Broncos into a prelim v Panthers. Which will create a world where Panthers could be out of the GF altogether.

I'm not necessarily worried about Penriths form. Dropping one before the finals isn't the worst thing, they got absolutely spanked back in 21 by Storm and seemed to wake them up a bit.

That said I'm never convinced of Penrith V Storm on the big stage. Early days and different faces but they shit themselves back in the '20 gf, got very lucky that Storm fell in a heap of injuries and HIA's in 2021 (and they really should've lost the week prior to Parra if not for a dodgy call), then in 2022 got a clear run without having to face them and beat up on the also rans instead. Plus you add to that Queensland/Munster largely having the wood over half Penriths side in origin and I think there'll be real panic in Penriths attack if they have to chase.

They've been there and done it, but comps aren't easy to win and grand finals not easy to make, feel like they're going to come unstuck somewhere. Feels like there's more threat from Storm and Broncos this year than there was from last years top 4 and Knights and Warriors are a bit of an unknown quantity. Would enjoy seeing both of them notch up a finals win or two. Feel like Raiders and/or Sharks are going to go down in a big way if/when they take on the big dogs, 30+.

Yeh I don't see Penrith's form as an issue, I think team form is mainly confidence + continuity and given they've been there and done it before (confidence) and they will only be missing one key player (continuity) I expect they'll be fine.

I just still think Penrith are a level above at the moment and I say that because they're the only side in the comp who can play poorly and just win games with their defence.

    Points conceded:
    1. Panthers 13pts per game
    2. Broncos 17.7pts ger game
    3. Warriors 18.7pts per game
    4. Knights 18.8pts per game

    Linebreaks conceded:
    1. Panthers 3.6 per game
    2. Roosters 4.1 per game
    3. Rabbitohs 4.2 per game
    4. Warriors 4.3 per game

    Run Metres conceded:
    1. Panthers 1,295m per game
    2. Storm 1,327m per game
    3. Warriors 1,363m per game
    4. Sharks 1,383m per game

And then they are so just so dominant with field position & possession that on top of being able to back their defence they can just control where the game is played.

    Run Meters per game:
    1. Panthers 1,607m per game
    2. Broncos 1,501m per game
    3. Cobwoys 1,483m per game
    4. Sharks 1,483m per game

    Tackles in Opp 20:
    1. Panthers 36.6 per game
    2. Warriors 30.5 per game
    3. Raiders 29.9 per game
    4. Tigers 29.3 per game

    Kick Return metres:
    1. Panthers 134m per game
    2. Roosters 115m per game
    3. Sharks 113m per game
    4. Broncos 105m per game

    Forced drop outs:
    1. Panthers 1.9per game
    2. Tigers 1.6 per game
    3. Raiders 1.5 per game
    4. Titans 1.5 per game

There's just far more paths to victory for the Panthers IMO.

It would be a great display of how shit the comp has been this year if the Roosters make the GF after playing like shit all season.

  10. Toolman TR Man

nvm just saw the roosters run, could've seen them beating the warriors and putting in a strong 1 off performance to beat brisbane in a semi, but zero chance they're beating melb/bris then backing that up against penrith.

Why does every team keep persisting with the 10m dropout attempt? They're all terrible at it.

  15. Toolman TR Man

You'd think by now they would realise to aim very high like a union dropkick, well over the 10m and somewhat infield so that if they fail the result is still at least somewhat close to a normal dropout. Have your fullback gun for it so that no one's out of line and there's no panic afterwards.

  16. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

Yeah it's pretty stupid. The risk/reward on a high drop out coming down 15-20m ahead is so much better.

I've kind of assumed they've worked out is easier to defend a full set from your line than a set starting 30 out.

Gotta feel a bit for Papenhuyzen. That was nasty and not long into his comeback.

Wahs not getting much love from the refs here today.

  19. Toolman TR Man

Roosters and Sharks are both shit. May as well just play the GF now.

  20. Magic AJ Parker

To go into a game with James Tedesco, Jospeh Manu & Joseph Suaalii in your starting 13 and Sandon Smith ends up at fullback something has really gone wrong.

Cronulla bottled that as much as we wont it but fuck that has to go down with the SKD intercept 2010 final for the most enjoyable wins I've ever seen.
