Trbojevic in the centres and Cotric on the wing is a much better option lol.

Whats the go with Tonga/Samoa players playing origin/for NZ. Do they have to make some election?

I am a massive Canberra fan if you hadn't already noticed. Even if you think he hasn't played to his potential his a long way in front of both Katoa and Proctor as a footballer. He is good at both second row and the middle. I'd understand him not making the middle rotation given who you've selected there but he's a good pick as the bench second rower (if he's not starting there). I think you could make a case for him being a better bench option than Marty Taupau as an out and out middle these days too IMO.

Sure if he is a long way in front of Katoa and Proctor then of course my point is nullified.
But I don't think he is as he takes poor penalties at times and doesn't assert himself enough (again connected to potential).

Katoa and Proctor are both inspirational to their teammates as they "lift" for the occassion, while Tapine coasts in 3rd gear for most games even at test match level and this does not make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. Again his 3rd gear is better than Katoas/Proctors 4th gear, but that is not my point.

The miracle on ice in 1980 happened when the USA ice hockey team dropped their star player. They went on to win gold.

The debate boils down to how much he is front of Katoa and Proctor. I submit it is not "a long way" as you have submitted.

I honestly can't complain too much because at least they had a dig today for once albeit losing but a dig nonetheless.

Mitchell, Wighton, Staggs and Trbo just off the top of my head without any thought. Could name a few more. Would include Munster if the 6 will be Keary.

    Was Drinkwater injured or dropped?

I think for the first time in a long time you guys are actually building to something.

Young taleneted spine, some good three-quarters. Bring back Morgan and Holmes and get a few fresh edge forwards in and you guys won't be far off the 8 next with plenty of potential to develop that squad into something a lot better.

Not sure Paul Green is the man to do it either, big decision there to be made come end of the season I'm sure.

Who would you pick as your 2nd rowers if not those 4?

  11. Hurricane JD Hurricane

    North Queensland Cowboys
Valentine Holmes is expected to miss 8-10 weeks with a syndesmosis injury.

    • Valentine Holmes (ankle, round 18-20)
    • Peter Hola (wrist, TBC)
    • Scott Drinkwater (knee, TBC)
    • Tom Opacic (knee, TBC)
    • Jordan McLean (calf, round 11)
    • John Asiata (knee, round 11)
    • Michael Morgan (shoulder, indefinite)

Drinkwater is maybe better than Dylan Brown

I wouldn't pick 4 edge forwards. I shouldn't have bolded Cordner, possibly did it due to spelling. My edges would be Cordner&Fifita, Cordner due to him being captain, and bench edge spot dependent on form, probably go with Matterson, if not Crichton/Fritzle.

Has Fifita done enough to deserve a Kangaroo jumper?

  14. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

No, but I'm assuming Gemmel expects he will have by the time the team is selected.

  15. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

It's pretty clear he is the best right edge backrower Australia have.

  16. Magic AJ Parker

Yeh I'm very much against picking a player in a Test side before they have paid their dues and Gemmell has picked some Broncos shockers like Glenn & TPJ in rep sides in the past but David Fifita looks a once in a generation type player. He will undoubtedly start in origin this year if fit and have to prove himself in that arena but I think he will.

At worst as an impact player off the bench he would be an excellent option.

A Broncos hype beast who is actually worth the hype.

Well I am glad someone has made a post like this because there is a perception that only the core league community in Australia, ie families who have grown up with league, understand the value of a Kangaroo jumper.

Wally Lewis understood the value yet he doesn't seem to be rated as highly in his own country as he is overseas both in New Zealand in England. There is a common perception that the general NRL fan in Ocker believes the flavour of the month player should start in Tests for Australia regardless of his longevity or contributions.
Tests in league are taken very seriously in New Zealand and we suspect they are taken more seriously than they are in Australia. Winning a Kiwi Jersey is a something held in high esteem. Benji Marshall was in tears before his last test and beneath this post I am going to post a picture that sends shivers down my spine when I see it.
We think over here in NZ it is a crying shame and extreme insult to the entire game of Rugby League that Wally Lewis is ONLY an immortal when another 14 blokes have the same status as him. We don't think he is given the mana he deserves by the Australian public yet is regarded at a higher level in New Zealand than in his own country. He is called the Great Wally Lewis in these parts. Not Wally Lewis. The Great Wally Lewis. He valued tests. He was proud to be Australian captain. And when we watch your new generation against Tonga like Latrell not dive on loose balls or put their heads in dark places we fear for the loss of the game at the highest level. What was heart warming after that loss was Andrew Johns on the after match rip into Latrell for not respecting the 100 year tradition of the Kangaroo jumper. He was incensed. Wally would have been livid too.

This photo sends shivers up my spine. Gary Freeman leads out the Kiwis...

I think that's probably largely due to origin.
Many see origin as the pinnacle of the sport now rather than tests.
That level of pride you're talking about now comes from a blue or maroon jumper, rather than the green & gold one.

Also partly due to the selectors, being at the end of the season, test teams now have to include a couple of dumb picks from the premiers/top few teams.
Which certainly cheapens it a bit

TPJ is the perfect bench forward for rep footy. Would make any side.

    Luciano Leilua tbh
