Is he good enough to get drafted?

Yeah. I think he's late second/early third standard. The AFL website are hyping him like a first, though.

Yeah indigenous fella. He'll rise up my ranks a bit in the next update. He's definitely afl standard and will be drafted. Finds a lot of the footy and is a good user. Quick enough, knows where the goals are and is developing an inside game too. height perhaps a small issue but he looks to be a pretty safe selection with a 2nd/3rd rounder. Don't think he'll ever be elite but a good solid role player.

Halfway through the champs and we're due an update. I'll update the power rankings tonight. Any questions/comments while I'm on it?

A week ago I'd have been all in favour but I'm cooling a little on McCartin of late. I'm worried about 'manchild syndrome' in both he and Wright. Patton and Boyd got away with it because they weren't just manchildren but smart ones. They led to the right places, their footy iq was worthwhile and with regards to contested marking while yeah, they were bigger than everyone else - they were also in the right spots, had the right positioning and read the ball really well. Wright doesn't have that natural knack and really dominates via his exceptional reach, height and having a better forward iq than most rucks. I think he's a ruckman though who can rest forward well. There are too many ?s about the extent of how well his height would translate to dominance at AFL level when he doesn't have the tricks other forwards do.

McCartin is just a manchild. He's not a contested marking threat and he's not athletic or powerful on the lead - he's just so so so good 1 v 1. And I'm worried that would not only be easily double teamed/loose man owned at AFL level but he won't be that much more stronger and developed at AFL level. He's the height of a Pavlich/Tex but doesn't play with that style. I do think he'll be good but again, it's about playing the probabilities and he's far from a sure bet.

I think we'll have a good few busts from this crop - esp. the talls. Some will be good but nearly all of them have serious ?s and bust potential.

Brayshaw's a solid bet. I'm not as sold on him as others are but he's probably the safest midfielder in the crop. Low flash but high substance and production. A bit like Wines in his draft year he's bigger than most and really powerful bodywise - has a fantastic frame for afl footy too. Gets a lot of the ball, dual sided and capable both inside and out but isn't incredibly quick or skilled with the feet. He's a component of a winning team but perhaps not the reason they're winning if y'know what I mean. I think his range is probably 4-8.

    No Harry Dear?

Saints probably need a replacement for Riewoldt tbh.

    #44.

Wait Billy Evans is an inside mid, never seemed like he would be that sort of player?

    Looked 3 times too

Wouldn't mind Hawthorn taking him under f/s but opportunities will be limited with Roughead, Gunston, O'Brien and Tatupu. Might take over Hale's spot if Grimley is shafted.

I see very little in Stanley/White to come. White's doing nothing atm and I know it's only the second season but still. Stanley ugh.

Tom Lee is the future forward of that club atm and imo he's got all the tools to get there. But even then he's your #2/3 mobile forward not the #1 go to guy.

I don't think they'll care who they get. They just need someone to be 'the guy' - the #1. Goddard, Durdin (as a fwd) and Moore aren't that #1. Keitel, McCartin and Wright have the potential to be. I think they'll take one of those three...Keitel as a massive bolter if they must.

Oh yeah. Inside as they come. 189cm, 87kg - he's the only inside midfielder in the crop that's 'modern day extractor' size. The rest of them are nuggety sub 6 footers. Evans is the Watson/Kennedy height inside mid which will imo see him go first round despite not showing enough yet - he's just the only big bodied tall inside mid in the crop. Definitely inside though.

I wonder what GWS will do. Yes they're stacked on key forwards, but they did go McCarthy last draft despite already taking Boyd....

I dont think I have seen him play, might have played against him but he would have been young and I didnt take notice of him. Played a bit of cricket aginst him and he didn't seem like a big bodied lad, probably has put on a bit since then though

Aren't that many gun mids available this year. Besides with Whitfield, Kelly, Conigilo, Treloar, Shiel, Ward, Hoskin-Elliott etc. there's plenty of promising midfield class IMO.

Can never have too many mids.

Plenty of good midfielders can spend time forward.

Turns out Peter Wright is a cousin of a bloke I used to play footy with.

Not really. He's not very good, would need a lot falling his way.
