In the courier they said he may look at getting LARS surgery, if so he could possibly make it back early next season.
Is that the one Bowen got? I read something about not being able to get it if you've had a knee reco already.
Nah I think LARS is where they use the fully synthetic ligament maybe? Meant to heal a load faster but be riskier or something.
Yeah synthetic ligament. I think the riskier side of it is the fact there may not be any data for the long term durability of the graft, because it is only a relatively new type of surgery. Luke Covell got it last season and was back playing in about 10 weeks or so iirc. There are a number of AFL players who have had it so maybe one of the AFL heads on here could provide more insight. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/n...r-on-knifes-edge/story-e6frfgbo-1225851583260 http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-sport/malceski-backs-lars-surgery-technique-20100413-s76a.html
Can anyone tell me how he hurt it? I cant pinpoint any particular moment. He seemed fine all the way up to half time.
[QUOTE Have you met him? I met him and he was one of the nicest blokes out, it really surprised me.[/QUOTE] Yeah I have, my opinion still stands.
I've had a few chat's with him when I've seen him out on the piss. He used to hit the Sunny Coast scene with KHunt and about 5 huge Maoris quite regularly. He is definitely figjam, wont blow you off though. Hunt however is a great guy and doesn't mind having a laugh.
There is no long term or even medium term outcome of the LARS surgery though. No way I'd want that ****er in my knee not knowing what it will be like in 2/3 years time.
It's been done for some AFL players recently and worked remarkably well. Nick Malceski had his about 3 years ago and he had his best season this year.
Yeah LARS is the way to go for blokes that age. But with young blokes like Otten and Kruezer its best to get a proper full knee reco.
You said you don't know who it'll be in two or three years... Malceski had his three years ago and he's fine, man.
So give it 4 or 5 years. The timeframe he gave was just an example. It's experimental, no one knows the long term effects.
This. If we're talking about young blokes then standard knee reconstruction is obviously the way to go, but in Tate's case he's what? 29? LARS is the best option to extend that career. With LARS he could play the majority of next season instead of missing the lot.
