Qld Team: 5. BJT Manera (24 caps) 10. A Vago (25 caps) 1. RST Downpipes (25 caps) 17. BJ Gemmell (23 caps) 22. M Perry (15 caps) 16. R Gee (7 caps) 27. TJL Webber (9 caps) 28. CJ Devonshire (2 caps) 13. L Lover (6 caps) 3. GEC King (20 caps) 4. C Man (25 caps) Bowling Order: 1. C Man 2. L Lover 3. CJ Devonshire 4. GEC King 5. M Perry 6. BJ Gemmell The decision to run with Devonshire over Rocker or Surkelton was a very tough one. In the end, Rocker and Surkelton's poor extended origin records were too hard to ignore. Also, Chris has shown decent form this season bowling mainly at first change in a struggling team. On top of this, his batting will really strengthen the lower order - an area in which NSW have had it over us this season. With Devonshire moving up to the firsts squad, Charles has been rushed into the 2nd XI team. The other change to the squad mistakenly names yesterday is Orr, who will come in for Bradford. This decision is to fix up balance issues. In a surprising move, Tool Man will pick up the gloves in what is most likely his first keeping assignment of his career. The team to play NZ will be as follows: 1. CJ Sheehan 2. P Retzel 3. JA Robertson (4, 6) 4. B Man 5. TR Man+ 6. LA Pilgrim 7. G Shriram (6, 5) 8. P Orr (5, 4) 9. JU Rocker (1) 10. SJ Surkelton (2) 11. P Charles (3) I'm very confident of this seconds squad to get the job done against the kiwis.
That bowling attack looks remarkably toothless. Man and King the only ones who I'd consider capable of shredding a line-up.
There aren't really a lot of options with Qld tbh. Basically we've been running with a Devonshire or Robertson type option as our third seamer for a while. We went with Lover in game 1 but he's more a bowler who can at. Make no mistake, he is actually being selected ahead of Rocker and Surkelton. It's no weaker than last season when we were running with Man, Rocker, Robertson, King, Perry as the bowling attack. I'm more confident in Lover to take wickets than Rocker. Choco's not showing as much as last season but he's quality and I'm in better form than last season.
