Caroline Hutchinson | June 22, 2013 Bears Players happy to greet their newest player While the 21-year-old is understood to be set to earn more than $1 million per season - a large component of which will be for marketing - Welker said that was not the main incentive "If I stayed in rugby league or even if I went to rugby union I would be getting paid well,'' he told media at a press conference in the Woods to announce his signing "Money was not the end factor in my decision, it was the opportunity that came up.'' He said the fact that he was originally from the Woods and had a lot of family still there was a consideration, as was the challenge of trying to succeed at a new code. Welker acknowledged he faced a hard road to make the transition, having never played the game "I certainly have to learn a lot of skills to adapt to the game and that is one of the challenges I have to face ... but I'll do what it takes to become a successful Aussie Rules Sim player,'' he said. "I'm not feeling any pressure at all, I'm just looking forward to the opportunity that's been placed before me, it's going to be a great challenge, but it's something I'm looking forward to. "It's going to be a great journey and an adventure for me''. Welker said he had consulted with former Test Eagles teammate Heath Davis, who has joined The Rushed behinds, before agreeing to the switch. Welker's decision comes as a massive blow to Rugby League Sim and will give The Bears franchise a huge boost in terms of its profile around the Island of Cricsim
