    Basically I could set it to 1 point between 3 ranks in all the major skills, and set the top poster to 90 e.g in a certain skill. If he was trained in that skill for 3 seasons, he would be 99 in that skill in no time...

    I reckon I will be able to figure it out though, and it would work.

    Lets say the top 3 posters are a Hooker, Flanker and Fly Half.

    Hooker = 65 in hooking.
    Flanker = 65 in stength
    Fly Half = 65 in kicking.

    The next 7 posters are 2 Props, a lock, 2 Wingers a centre and a Fly Half.

    Props = 64 in strength
    Lock = 64 in jumping
    Wingers = 64 in speed
    Fly Half = 64 in kicking.

    Etc etc..
    That would be starting from scratch.
    But it wouldn't have to be for a set difference.

    There are so many different ways to work it.
    I.e everybody with less than 50 posts regardless of rank receives no benefit.
    Then work it percentage wise.
    Top 5% of posters receive maximum benefit (+20 on primary skill).
    Next 10% receive +15 on primary skill.
    Next 25% receive + 8 on primary skill.
    Next 40% receive + 3 on primary skill.
    Bottom 20% receive no benefit.

    I dunno just a few ideas.

    Good ideas tbh. But it depends. You say a Fly Half = 65 Kicking, would he be 65 in all over skills?

    That was one example..
    I don't know what base you had all players starting at but when I made all the players they all started on 40 for every attribute but this was then changed dependent of postitions they chose.

    For a prop I had a base rule of + 5 strength, - 5 speed for example.
    If they were a winger + 5 speed, - 5 strength.

    If somebody was a winger but secondary a prop I had them as + 3(2.5) speed and - 3(2.5) strength.
    As the primary position took precedence while the secondary meant they couldn't be overly quick or overly weak.
    That is a made up example as I can't remember fully.

    Obviously you could just ignore the secondary position bit but I just did it as it added a bit of variety rather than every prop in the game having identical stats barring height and weight. This at least added a little diversity.

    If you did it this way from the start you could then do the "Kicking = x" example as depending on post RANK you could alter everybody's main attributes to a certain level.

    But again I don't know what you have done so far so can't comment.
    I would only allow one skill to be increased or maybe (using the second example) 20 attribute points (for top 2% of posters) to be spread over 2/3 attributes.

    I had my own ideas about the sim since we spoke on msn about you wanting to run it jointly.

    The only problems i see with this is that it wouldnt take into account post rank changes during the season. Say the person who was 2nd on the rank when inactive and dropped out of the top 10 he would stay much better.

    Also the players skill choices should be taken into account in terms of assigning attributes.

    Seasons are pretty short also players deteriorating isn't uncommon.
    They wouldn't shoot from top to bottom over the course of a season.... but losing 5 points wouldn't be too uncommon.

    It was just an example but saying that there will be changes in the post ranoking so maybe finding a way to integrate that during the season could be somehting to look into

  8. Baxter MJ Deane

    Yeah TBH I think it should be implemented ASAP... half of the things on the first post there is no need to wait for.

    Glad to see the idea is getting a lot of input. A lot of heads working it out is better than 1

    I know. Season 2 is a long way away, with only 1 round a week.

    Should be done now to stop people losing interest.

    Definately, I'll be getting plenty of commentary lines done for you all this weekend.

  12. Callum CJ Laing

    Yeah I would agree about it being put into place ASAP. Maybe everyone can have a base skill level that remains the same, then an increase from training and post rank that is updated every round. Rob may be able to help with keeping track of the posts? It would mean more work for Eds but more work will need to go into this for it to improve.

  13. Baxter MJ Deane

    Eds could keep track of posts himself if he has excel I imagine.

  14. Eds E Ames

    I am willing to put more work into it. There could possibly be Round 4 and 5 this weekend if the Provincial matches are popular.

    @Marcuss, I like your idea, and that is how I have done the skills basically. I won't give out the exact figures but it is similar and secondary positions are taken into account. i much prefer things to start at the end of the season than add things in the middle. This is why S1 has been shortened.

    OP edited. C'mon guys, keep the suggestions coming and if they are good enough, they will be implemented.

    I think atm just getting everyone active for Season 2 is the biggest thing we should concentrate on. Marcuss' suggestions might help do that, but I think as mentioned time and time again, a stats output is probably required.

    Tbh I wouldnt really use your time up right now on the reserve grade when only a handfull of people from the First XV are even active in one team, let alone a second.
    As said before the output and commentry is most important.
