Why the **** not. Someone who's been here 5 mins with this activity thing is ridiculously better than me and I've been here over a year now with continuos activity. If the system could take previous activity into account it'd be better but I guess we have to start from somewhere.
The idea is to reward those active around the time of the actual games. I don't want it to account for whether you were active a year a go or not. If you stay active you'll probably both make the side, anyway.
How much is it going to affect a player? Is it like a form factor or is it equal to what post counts are in the Bannerman Shield?
Doesn't really bother me tbh, as long as it's never the same for BS. Will the resets be a round to round thing or just random?
It'll count for massively more than that. There's a large "previous performance" factor as far as the BS/ALC goes that takes into account every game you've ever played. The OD system will be based very, very heavily on recent activity. There will be a factor for recent form but historical previous performance will be worth absolutely 0 - what someone has done in OD cricket before this season is irrelevant. Anyway, I hate talking about this crap. Firstly because people always whinge no matter what the system is as every system will have some people at the bottom, and secondly because it's entirely unrealistic. All you need to know re: OD cricket is that if you stay active around the forum you'll move up that list, and if you move up that list you'll get picked. I don't want to see another ten threads become about this topic; 79 is enough.
I just want OD cricket to be a medium for active players to play first XI cricket, and most importantly a format that can get a lot of live discussion going in match threads and reward clubs that promote activity. Having players selected because they were active three seasons ago, took 70 wickets @ 10 and have been living off the past performances factor doesn't really fit into that ethos, not does having players selected because they absolutely fluked it a few times and again lived off that same annoying factor. If you want long-term activity, past performances, experience and all those other factors to play a part, then I'd like to point you to our Bannerman Shield competition. We have the BS for the serious, realistic side of CricSim - I see the OD competition as a way to be a lot more practical about it, to keep newer members interested and stop first grade from being the home of former posters.
