Season 9 Preseason One Day Friendlies

And it's definitely the way to go. I've noticed in our subby when people were picking sides for the OD tourney they picked Bullpitt. There is no way he should be picked in it and that is fair enough. People will lose interest if they know they have no chance of being any good for atleast 12 months.

I guess. But I still think that past perforances should have an effect. Albeit a small effect, but an effect nevertheless.

The fact that someone can pretty much just sign up and gun it in first grade OD is a bit too far.

  3. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

If someone joined, they would need so pump out atleast 500 posts.

  4. Eds E Ames

It has been known for some members to pump out 300 in a day.

  5. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

So good on them. That will get them in the top 50.

Who deserves to be better in the OD, someone who has posted 300 times in the last 24 hours, or someone who has posted 30 times in the last 12 months?

  6. Cribbage RG Cribb

Well I strongly, strongly disagree. Personally I think you're taking one day cricket far too seriously as a format of cricket in general.

  7. Eds E Ames

Obviously the first one. But who deserves to be better in OD, someone who has posted 300 times in the last 24 hours, with the majority being one sentence posts, or someone who has posted 2k over the past 12 months, consistently, but has not been ridiculiusly active recently whilst still posting a fair amount.

It's good fun, and you sim games 'live'. Don't rate it in real life, but as far as CribbSim is confirmed, I rate it.

  9. Magic AJ Parker

    Why?

Like Boobidy said the new members seem to get bored pretty quickly with the ALC competition, there is rarely any talk about it and more often than not the sides are full of inactive members.

The pros far outweigh any cons I have heard so far.

  10. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Exactly. And people wonder why Cribb doesn't sim? How about stop criticizing every ****ing decision he makes when it is the right one but it slightly goes against you. Wake the **** up and realise it's for the best of the sim. The OD is to reward the new people and people who want to be active and discuss it. If you want the long term option go open the BS section and read that for a while.

  11. Eds E Ames

I'm not criticizing. I'm merely suggesting.

  12. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

And your suggestion is stupid. Please refrain from making any more.

  13. Eds E Ames

    Ummm... nah.

  14. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Make sure the next one doesn't make you look like a complete douchebag.

Yeah, spot on. Someone who starts pumping out 300 posts a day just after joining is obviously showing an avid interest in the site, so I'd much rather have him have a go in a competition that's playing second fiddle anyway than the twelfth most active member of his team.

Remember - this isn't about who's good when they get there as much as it about who actually gets picked. A one day game featuring Downpipes, Bullpitt, Gonzalez, Tyson, Short and Davis is going to get a loss less interest than a game involving new, ethusiastic, active members who are a fair way off first grade in five-day cricket and would relish the chance to play some first XI cricket early on that counts towards something and get involved in a live CricSim match thread. I actually love the fact that Scottie is suddenly the Ravens third best OD batsman - he's only made about 200 posts but he's been active lately so he's got a chance to taste first grade and perhaps cement and most lasting interest in the whole thing. And if he gets bored of it and leaves he'll drop down the activity rankings and get dropped after this season anyway - there's no downside other than (fair, mind you) personal disadvantage to ****s who like to whinge about everything.

As soon as you start factoring in previous performances you open the door for players who aren't active but were once active to get picked - much like what happens in the BS. It just clogs it up and detracts from the interest in it. If you think that's what should happen, then just follow the BS because that's exactly what happens. The point of having different competitions is that they're different.. having the one day comp follow the same formula as the five-day comp just makes it completely inferior and worthless because five day cricket >>>>>>>>> one day cricket. This makes it different and adds a lot to the site and the forum.

Alternatively, you could ignore all that and just keep repeating yourself with "Yeah well you have all that but I still think X for NoReasonGiven" but you'll begin to look like a bit of a douche for doing so, not to mention severely test my patience.

FFS....why can't people just STFU and take the changes on the chin and just roll with it. The amount of interest in the OD side of the game will be immense this coming season and there will be a huge amount of posting/chat.

Changes always mean discussion, but discussion is now turning to moaning and whinging and that pisses everyone off. The changes have been made now, that's that and we should all be looking forward to next Sunday. I know I am.

People seem to think I was whinging, when I really wasn't.

Were doing a good impression of it.
Even if you weren't, you were really doing a good job of arguing for something that would entirely undermine the purpose of OD cricket.
    CCG's rant was funniest though.

Almost in the league of your own ;)

I was just pretty pissed by the fact that someone has just joined, made a few posts and jumped me straight into the team which you can understand but meh I'll just have to get on with it.

Cribb, I don't think you've answered this but with OD is 100% on this activity thing or do posts count towards in any way? Just wondering, no prob if it's not.
