I don't think he was shit, but they made him go downhill so far at the end, that he will basically need a Rocky montage in Episode VIII to be of any threat. Rey was stupidly good at everything straight away, and just knew how to do a Jedi mindtrick without seeing or knowing of it, it was pretty shit and made Luke in episode IV look like a shit cunt.

I kind of see that as the story arc though -- we're introduced to him early on as the big scary Vader2.0, then by the end of the movie we realise he really isn't. The start of the movie is him acting tough, the scene where he lightsabers the entire room of equipment looks like "oh shit, psycho, Vader wasn't this crazy". Then in the context of the later half of the movie, that same scene is more a case of "lol, he's just a spoilt brat who didn't get his way".

I can understand why people aren't a fan of it and think its shit, but IMO the deconstruction of Ren-as-Vader2.0 leaves open some interesting possibilities for the second and third movies.

Most of the criticisms of The Force Awakens can be answered by pointing out that it is the first film of three.

I think the only thing thats gonna stop rei being lukes daughter is the fact that its way too obvious.

    Its still my pick.

Kylo had so much potential to be an awesome villian until he takes off the mask and is showen to be nothing more than a spoilt brat

Oh and i dont care if thats the point. Its my opinion.

Sure it's your opinion. It just seems interesting that we simultaneously have a movie being criticised for being overly derivative and then people don't like it where this movie did go in an opposite direction.

We had plenty of whiny emo white man in Anakin already though.

Exactlly. It's like Disney are trying to basically remake the first 3 because they know most fans hated them.

It's the fucking point. He wants to be Anakin.

and he's doing a much better job.

  9. Alec AD Funkotron

    Anakin was manly than him.

He's got the cooler lightsaber though.

Really enjoyed it, probably give it a 7.5/10

Loved all the new characters, Carrie Fisher was by far the weakest link. Should've taken a jump off the bridge with Solo.

Felt like the movie didn't explore enough topics or questions about what had gone in the last 30 years. The trailer teased that Skywalker, Vader & co. had become myths but that topic was never explored in the slightest. Thought they could've cut out an action scene or two and the movie wouldn't have suffered at all.

In saying that I think they've teed up the next two episodes extremely well.

Yeah I think JJ took the criticism of the exposition in the prequels way too far. I wouldn't have minded even a 5 minute explanation on the backdrop of some of the plot points.

I think that will come in the next 2 movies IMO.

Yeah I think these criticisms would be fair if at the end of the 3 you still don't get it. At this stage while its frustrating to have to wait it is just one part

Knowing it's a Trilogy, I left the cinema wanting to know the answers to things. To me that's damn good film making as people will more than certainly keep going to the next ones to get them

Can't agree, my criticism is of the 7th movie following 6th movie in which there was a 30 year break and we basically found out nothing about what went on during that period.

I have no issues with the lack of character development that builds suspense for future episodes and I even have no issues with some of the topics that occurred over the 30 year gap not being explored until later, the perfect example being what the fuck has Luke Skywalker been doing. I thought they nailed that perfectly despite barely giving anything away.

The 7th movie IMO needed to answer a lot of questions about what had happened over the past 30 years in regards to past characters and politics to set up the future episodes but they failed miserably.

Maybe it's just me but I would've been far more happy with less action and more politics/topics explored. Still a thoroughly enjoyable movie that has built suspense for future episodes well, just think they missed an obvious opportunity to do better.

Yeah good point. The more I think about it the more I feel the need for a third Death Star just wasn't there and it was a bit lazy and done for nostalgia's sake. Though I suppose if they wanted to blow up that many planets they didn't have many alternatives.

Not sure with the Death Star thing that's annoying pretty much everyone.

The problem is that the death star is probably the most deadly weapon you could think of in terms of destroying matter. It doesn't really leave any room to move in terms of making a weapon more destructive apart from blowing up multiple planets.

Also a weapon in space is pretty limited not sure what else you could create that would be effective in space?
