I'm not saying they will be shit for you or anything or that either were bad picks, just that teams that don't contain Kallis could have used Haddin more as he could bat top 6 and keep, allowing a team to basically play five bowlers without having a really long tail. Kallis does the same thing by batting top six and being a frontline bowler. For this reason I'm surprised Haddin didn't go in Round 1. Kallis, Haddin, Watto and Sangakkara are the most valuable players in this IMO. EDIT: Oh and Dhoni as well. All these blokes really set up a team up really well.
How the **** is Watson so valuable? Are you gonna be doing his stats on what you think his potential is instead of what he has actually produced?
My actual opinion will have absolutely no effect on Watto's rating. What you seem to be missing though is that this is a domestic competition, and Watto averages 46 with the bat and 29 with the ball playing the majority of his cricket in the best domestic competition in the world.
Yeah I know what you mean. I thought that was going to be the case as well, but when it came round to my next pick and Haddin was still available I had to have him. It still gives me flexibility too though. From now on I have to fill: 3, 5, 6, bowler and the two reserves. One reserve at this point will another spinner and I am yet to decide on who will be the other reserve. It should be a batsman, but because Haddin is so strong with the bat, I could pick another all rounder if there are any half decent ones left and essentially play 6 bowlers. Would also enable me to play 2 specialist spinners most times if I decide on an all rounder who is good enough to bat 7.
Yeah that seems to have evaded some people. A few selections coughSarwancough etc etc are made because of performances in irrelevant forms of cricket.
So his injuries and latest shitness with the ball won't affect it? So if that's the case Noffke will be a ****ing gun.
See, I think that there should be some weight to test cricket. It's not fair that a test cricketer's first class average is brought down by playing test matches against better opposition.
I know there is no injuries. But because of his recent injuries his bowling has taken a major backseat. And Noffke has like 200 more wickets with a better average...
Noffke's batting his come along so much recently. Years ago he couldn't hold a bat, but he has been a consistent big run getter for QLD and IIRC he was the highest run scorer AND highest wicket taker a few seasons ago.
There's a lot of weight to Test cricket, particularly regarding those who have played a lot of it. Julian's point about Sarwan was that his Test and FC records are pretty ordinary in comparison to other players available. Players who have dominated high-quality First Class competitions and haven't played many Tests will be good, but so will players who have dominated Tests. After all, the Test Championship is, really, the best First Class competition in the world. I'm not trying to say that Tests are irrelevant - just that people should be looking beyond Tests if they want to make good picks late in the draft.
I don't rate Watsons bowling. Noffke is a gun bowler and an extremely reliable number 8 who could bat up the order if need be.
Team thus far with FC averages 1 Phil Jaques (bat: 53.21) 2 Wasim Jaffer (bat: 49.68) 3 4 Jacques Kallis (bat: 53.46, bowl: 30.49) 5 6 Brad Haddin (bat: 41.04) 7 Andrew Hall (bat: 34.43, bowl: 25.69) 8 Shahid Afridi (bat: 31.8 , bowl: 27.05) 9 10 Shoaib Akhtar (bowl: 26.26) 11 Doug Bollinger (bowl: 30.38)
