Forgot a few last time round Baba O'Reilly - The Who David Bowie - Heroes David Bowie - Space Oddity Simon & Garfunkel - Sound of Silence Editors - Smokers outside the Hospital Door Okkervil River - John Allyn Smith Sails
Oh yeah they are awful, like truly truly awful, but as a piece of story-telling that is probably the best rap song there is. I don't actually enjoy listening to it, it but if I ever meet someone (especially when blazed) who hasn't heard it I make them listen to it. Which is something I don't do that for very many lot of songs. The chorus is sick as well.
Prefered Screaming Trees to his solo work. I can only really get into Bubblegum, and then his cover of Gun Club's Carry Home which is on some other album.
Gonna eat my words and attempt to narrow a top 10. A lot are very borderline but yeah, this is it. 1. Millencolin - No Cigar 2. Pendulum - Crush 3. Pendulum - Mutiny 4. The Cure - Why Can't I Be You? 5. Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin 6. Boom Crash Opera - Onion Skin 7. Pendulum - Showdown 8. Headhunterz - Psychedelic 9. The Presets - My People 10. Shock One - Polygon ft. Reija Lee
Yeah, I can kinda appreciate the fact that he manages to go into quite so much detail all while maintaining a rap but I just can't get past what the story is. The first time I heard it I genuinely thought I was going to be sick on the spot. I just can't fully express how grim those lyrics were to me. Especially when you consider the fact that when he was confronted, at a gig, about the fact he says he was involved he replied by basically saying "this stuff happens in the hood".... ughh, So bad. So so bad. Can also appreciate the point about making people listen to it while blazed, even if I've never been so myself.
I gave them a listen because a number of guys on here talked them up. Quite liked what I heard but admittedly that was only a few songs. Would need to hear more of their stuff before I'd start raving about them.
Bubblegum's my favourite album. Personally go Bubblegum (Solo) > Dust (Trees) > Saturnalia (Gutter Twins, collab with Greg Dulli from Afghan Whigs) > Sweet Oblivion (Trees) > Whiskey For The Holy Ghost (Solo) > His QOTSA stuff.
I'm constantly trying to expand my musical library and find new music (and old), so my top 10 changes recently, I'll try a current and I guess, a definite top 10. I'll do a current one later, But my definite one would be something like, It's always changing though haha. 1: Circle Jerks - Back Against The Wall 2: Misfits - Hatebreeders 3: Misfits - Astro Zombies 4: Black Flag - Depression 5: The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace 6: Screeching Weasel - Don't Turn Out The Lights 7: Teenage Bottlerocket - Radio 8: Slayer - Reign In Blood 9: Youth Brigade - I Hate My Life 10: NOFX - The Man I Killed
Seriously thinking about dropping one of these for Westfall by Okervill River. Discovered it the other day, haven't been able to stop listening to it.
They've been on my bands to listen to list for months now. This thread was the final straw, couldn't put it off any longer.
Looking back, this is my favourite list. If I had to pick my 10 absolute favourite songs now I'd probably roll with something like: Symphonies - Dan Black Description of a Fool - A Tribe Called Quest Talk Tonight - Oasis There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths Time to Pretend - MGMT Learning to Fly - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Blood - The Middle East Baby, I'm Getting Better - Gyroscope In addition to these that I'll keep from my previous list: Tonight Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
You've got some good taste in music Mousey. Two top lists. Just about impossible for me to only pick out 10 songs and call them my absolute favourites.
