Its pretty silly. Each player should be tiered on how much impact they have for that team, then the compo pick should reflected that.
Because good players leaving good clubs hurts a lot less than good players leaving bad clubs. Just look at the Hawks after you guys lost Buddy...
Yeh I know what you're saying Brett but pick 3 for Frawley compared to pick 19 for Franklin is a joke.
Yeah I can't argue with that. Free Agency doesn't have compensation usually so it is an unusual interpretation of it.
Nah, I think its fine. Clearly Frawley leaving Melbourne has a bigger impact on the club than Franklin leaving Hawthorn
I like the compo pick, its a good way to keep it fair. But i think it should put other teams at a disadvantage (ie everyone after that pick). Like, Hawks should've lost their first rounder for Frawley, Sydney should've lost their first rounder for Buddy. This idea doesn't effect the other clubs but if you get a situation where Hawks lose a player to Carlton and then get the first round draft pick, then it might not work.
No doubt in that, but Franklin is a much better player, if Jones left Melbourne would the Demons receive picks 1, 2 and 3 because he's that important to them.
Clubs can't complain about compo picks because the value of the player in replaced by the space in the salary cap, you can sign another player/re-sign other guns with that space. A draft pick doesn't replace a player's value as you're selecting a kid, someone who can't step in and make the same impact straight away. Teams should feel lucky they're getting any compensation at all. If Adelaide could offer Dangerfield 1 million dollars and he didn't sign there that means they've got $1M to spend elsewhere now - that's the replacement value. I like the compensation pick as it rewards teams for the time and effort they've spend developing the player, but to suggest they should get the value of a player in picks and cap space is nuts. Max compo should be an end of 1st round pick. Also, teams probably know this but go up in arms about it to get public opinion on their side and get themselves better picks in the future.
If he left as a free agent, they'd get the pick after their first pick, which would be pick 5 or something.
This 100%, cunts wouldn't be whinging about compo picks if their teams were on the bottom having their best players pinched by the top teams.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer 29:11 Amen.
I'm a bit hesitant on Howe coming to Collingwood, if we get him for a straight swap with Ben Kennedy, i wouldn't be too upset as we have a bunch of players similar to BK. I love BK though and just wish he had been given more of a chance in the seniors, instead of being the #1 sub at the club.
Yeah I don't want to be giving up too much for Howe. I would have loved to have seen BK get more of an opportunity as well as I rate him very highly but I don't blame him for wanting to go somewhere else. Will the Treloar deal get done today?
