Liked most of it, didn't like a couple of the unanswered questions it just seemed to ignore at the end
I've actually quite liked it. I'm character driven and I feel the development given to Clara is much better this season as is the characterisation of Capaldi's doctor. Really like Capaldi. Some of the writing is a bit substandard and the pace of some episodes leaves a bit to be desired but I don't mind it. A more underlying story arc would be nice, though. If we get to episode 13 with like 5 minutes of 'end of episode hints' about this heaven shit I'll scream.
I'm not sure I'm Capaldi's biggest fan tbh. His dialogue scenes grate with me at times. Probably my least favourite doctor since the reboot atm
He's comfortably better than the original, whose name escapes me. Smith and Tennant were both exceptional, so it's difficult to compare at this early stage. I feel like the series is set up really well to be incredible towards the end, and I've somewhat enjoyed it even if the episodes haven't been particularly groundbreaking.
Eccleston was seriously overrated. Would have loved for him to do another season. DW under Moffat is exactly that Prez - generally underwhelming filler MOTW episodes with one good episode at the end. I don't think we'll be getting a good back end, just a solid finale. Would really love them to go back to the 4 x episode story arcs of the 70s and 80s. Like god damn I remember just being able to get my teeth into 4 episodes of DW all continuing into each other then bam new set of four.
I loved Ecclestone personally. This season is for me going back to the low standard at the end of David Tennant's era that made me stop watching it. Is a shame
personally prefer this season to last. prefer bleh MOTW stories w/ character development to shitty semi MOTW stories with terrible impossible girl story arc
Ecclestone is underrated purely because Tennant and Smith were so fucking good, imo. Skippos I guess the thing for me is I only feel there has been one definitively innovative, exciting episode so far - the one with the Doctor as a child. The rest has just been standard, Vanilla-esque Who - I still really enjoy it but am still waiting for another of those crazy good episodes. Was it last season that sometimes had 2-show "episodes?" That's the sort of shit that's missing from this season.
