Pretty disappointingly, was one of the worse Brisbane sides I've seen run out in a while. Our midfield continues to be the league's worst and our zone defence system didn't work at all. We were kept in it by Brisbane's inaccuracy in front of goals.. but that said we would have been much more competitive with Dawes in for Pedersen and Clark in as a marking forward instead of Howe. Think we took about three marks up forward all day.
Read an article on the HUN where they asked club staff who were the most intelligent blokes at the clubs. Jade Rawlings said it was Dawes & pretty convincingly. Never would have picked it.
Code: FB: D. Terlich J. Frawley C. Garland HB: J. Watts T. McDonald D. Nicholson C: J. Trengove J. McKenzie J. Grimes HF: M. Evans M. Clark L. Tapscott FF: S. Byrnes C. Dawes J. Howe R: M. Jamar C. Sylvia N. Jones IC: J. Toumpas J. Viney D. Rodan J. Strauss EM: M. Jones M. Gawn J. Magner A fully fit 22 or so, assuming guys like Viney and Toumpas pull their shit together. It's really not that bad. I mean, Every player on the field there bar - Evans (3-4/18) - McKenzie (8-9/18) - Nicholson (8-9/18) - Tapscott (12-13/18) - Byrnes (14-15/18) *should* command a spot in every other team's 22.
yeah this. Remember seeing an article on it in the paper too, thought his dad owned a library too iirc.
dude reminds me of byron picket. short stocky hardman. Loved him in his debut season, haven't seen much of him since though sadly
Tapscott was picked so high in the draft purely based on his kicking. Best u/18 kick of that draft class bar none. It was sublime. It didn't matter that he was playing u/18 SANFL at the time and when he played league he'd get 3 touches, his elite kicking was just that worthwhile. Looked the goods when he first played - but it seems he's lost that smoothness to his kicking over the last year and now, as stated, is more of a hardman. He's looked like a bit of a spud as a result but his work over the last month has me semi-excited. if he gets his kicking back he'll be a gun. If not, he'll be serviceable at best.
Rodan has been copping a bit of shit for his performance on Dees forums.. not sure how many people here watched the game but I actually really liked him on the half-back line. Definitely didn't give us enough up forward but without many tall forwards it was tough for him to crumb, but I actually thought he gave us good run across the half-back line and contributed well to some team passages of play. Was pretty efficient all afternoon from what I remember. Don't mind that 22 either Skippos - I realise it came with the precondition that Toumpas/Viney get their shit together but at the moment I'd have Matt Jones in ahead of Toumpas. I still think once we cull a few spuds like Jordie McKenzie (works hard but disposal skills are shocking) and improve our midfield we will eventually work our way off the bottom of the table.
I admire the hardness and effort he brings to the team but I cringe every time he gets the ball in his hands. Similar to JMac.
Might be worth trialling him up forward in the Petrenko role. Don't think he'd be any good but no harm.
