Too many halves

I thought this was an interesting discussion that happened before on another forum.

Can you have too many halves? Will it upset the overrall stability of your team?

Would like to know people's opinions on this. It's obviously affected the Warriors. You have Joel Moon, then Stacey Jones, who had to force his way back into the team. Nathan Fien has been playing pretty poorly and Michael Witt was forced to leave. Lance Hohaia, another halves option, is out injured. Do you think it's a positive to have so many halves at the club?

But then again, you have a club like Parramatta whose options include a reserve-grade-quality halfback, an inexperienced five-eighth and an out-of-form lock forward. The Tigers have a five-eighth playing halfback and a utility hooker playing at five-eighth, while the Sharks have a five-eighth at halfback and a five-eighth at five-eighth.

Is there a lack of quality halfbacks in the NRL?

Lance Hohaia isn't injured? And he shouldn't be considered in the halves IMO. Better player at fullback and at hooker.

Yeah. Settle on 2 ASAP IMO. That said, too many halves is better than not enough.

I know he's a better fullback, but he's still an "option", per se, at halves.

When did he get back from injury?

Last weekend against the Roosters, should have had a try in the fourth minute as well :p.

He is a terrible option in the halves. Anyone can be an "option" but he really shouldn't be considered there.

Lol, I didn't watch the match so I didn't know.

An "option" is still an option. He's more of a half than Sam Rapira!

IIRC, titans have a center at 5/8, a 5-8/halfback at fullback, and probly more i'm forgetting.

Not enough quality halves in the NRL.

Zillman played all the lower grades as a five eighth and halfback iirc.

Anyway, yeah, I think it's a problem when they're all out there at once. Moon's been shifted to lock a bit for the Warriors and it just doesn't work imo.

At Newcastle we have a 5/8th play halfback and a lock playing 5/8th and a first grade quality halfback playing park footy, but I guess that's Brian Smith for ya.

And a rumoured Origin half at fullback.

    LOL. Didn't think about that.

There is a lack of quality QLD halves. They have their top 3; Prince, Thurston & Locky, other than that they're average with Cronk being decent. There is a lot of good/great NSW halves though.

I didn't read the thread though so I hope that fits. <.<

Titans have got about 6 guys that can play the halves, all reasonably decently.

    First Choice Rogers/Prince

You've got Campbell, Zillman that are both capable of filling in should both those guys get injured.I think at a push Walker could even be half okay at 6

  16. kingdamo DRP Taylor

Steve Price is more of a half then Hohaia :p.

  17. SM MD Dorn

do you only consider Hohaia to be a crap halves option because he can't kick long?

  18. Magic AJ Parker

Rogers isn't a lock, it's like calling Braith Anasta a lock... just because they might make a good one doesn't make them one.

  19. kingdamo DRP Taylor

No, Stacey Jones can't kick long.

  20. Frizzed WC Welker

Rogers is more of a lock than a 5/8th.
