I agree. But the fact that he has played Origin is an indicator that there is a severe lack of quality halfbacks in rugby league AWS.
Oh I see now. Well Eels shouldn't have let Finch go and Penriff have a quality half, he just hasn't played for them yet.
Agreed, should do a better job than Sammut though. I mean in 07 Walsh was fantastic for us, however the forwards rarely laid a platform so he had hardly anything to work from. He has also bulked up a fair bit since then so isn't a complete speedhump in defence.
I don't care either tbh, they along with the fullback are the people who are the least important tackle makers. The props and backrow are there for a reason.
Halfbacks are one of the most targeted players in defence, so it would obviously be an advantage if they were sound defensively. Fullback is very important defensive-wise. Their positioning and ordering of the defensive line can be the difference between two teams. A good fullback will always be ordering players in defense. Not to mention that they are the last line and a large percentage of their tackles will be one on one.
And as for Prince saying Sammut isn't a half. I don't even think he's a league player tbh. Even worse than Grant Rovelli. I think the main problem is that we have been blessed in the past with so many outstanding halves, Alfie Langer, Andrew Johns, Ricky Stuart, all guys that are world class, you can't just go out and replace them with reserve grade dudes who are going to be that good
Lukic, You're the stupid **** that no one asked for, but we are stuck with. Nuff of shit, NRL halves talk is more valid here
I suppose that they are the last line part is important, but most of the time they won't be called upon to tackle. They make maybe 5 tackles a game.
